Ya man you misunderstood us. Were saying that the thing is 40$ after shipping and then you still need to buy the dvd rom.

No offense, you did great work, and your adapter is VERY reasonably priced. No problem there. Its just the add ons to get up and running.

Not bitchin bout your price.

At the moment, yes, the LG 8164 solution is not much of a better option over getting an original drive, but it will be the ONLY reasonable option in the near future.

The solution? Backup all your original Xbox games once. Then, mod another regular PC drive so it at least works in the Xbox by providing the four magic signals (tray open, tray close, eject, ready). The only downside is that you can't read original Xbox discs. It would be perfect for XBMC, however.

Your last point might be correct. I will think about this further and will maybe adjust my opinion.

I might have found a reasonable reseller in my area. Maybe I'll buy one of the adapters for testing. Just need to wait until I need to order more stuff.

It's only for the 8164, but you are more than welcome to attempt it on your 8163. Who knows, it might honestly work.

Use the 8050 FW with your 8163... The 8164b FW won't work in any other drive.

If this setup works as well as folks say it does, I think about $45 is VERY reasonable. Even the best of the original XBox drives were very slow.

I was just wondering though, can you put the XBox face plate (bezel) on the drive tray so that it looks somewhat original when it is assembled?

Quick question before I purchase the adapter, and will someone please answer it.

Am I correct to understand that to extract 360iso you only need to flash the firmware.

The adapter is only to get the drive to work inside an xbox1 right?

I planned on leaving the drive in my pc for xbox360 only.

Do I need the adapter or jsut the firmware.....Thanks.

The firmware is all that is necessary. The adapter is only needed if you plan on installing the drive into an original XBOX.

I see someone else has allready made fw for a pc drive and now I feel dumb because if I wouldve waited I could be usin it right now, instead im sittin here with this useless drive waitn for sum firmware....

Hi, i have flashed firmware Xbox8164flasher_V1.0,installed 8164 adapters everything well, the problem is that doesn't read the original game,only backup,i wonder me if I have mistaken something in the installation of the adapter?

I had same problem. I found that flashing the drive with one of the dangerous brothers PC firmwares, then reflashing using flasher_v1.0 fixed the problem for me. I had the non original booting firmware on there already. Great work PatX and MrPresident

the flamers . This worked out cheaper than me buying a sammy, but had it been slightly more expensive I would of still done it for the read speeds and the CD-R.

Yes for all 3. The letters following 8164 are to designate different packaging (aka: oem Beige, retail beige or oem black).

The hardware inside of the packaging and behind the different faceplates is identical.
