Xbox8164Adapter Firmware Released: Read Originals

that is a very unusual problem.  I have not run into this issue.  most any game I play or backup with my new drive it works 100 percent no problems.  is that the only game that does this of all your games?  You might even try reflashing the drive once more and see what happens.

After some searching on the web, I think you mean this tutorial. Maybe it's worth translating to English.

Here's a roughly translated version.

Xbox8164Adapter Firmware Released: Read Originals

do you NEED this adapter to read the originals? Could you just buy the drive, flash it with the firmware and hook it up with the original drive still in the box and read originals?

yes.  the adapter is only needed if you will be using the 8164 as the only dvdrom drive.  I've used 2 of these adapters now and they work great, and are well worth the $$ for people who can't be bothered to remove the connector from an old drive and connect it to the 8164 properly

Awesome Matt Devo, the first person to actually respond to anything i've posted.

Anyway i love to hear that you can hook it up with the dvd-swap method and still read originals, as this was not so clear about the 616's.

let me clarify though - the 8164 only reads original game discs with a modded bios right now.  you can't use it on a "stock" xbox to read originals.  I believe they are working on a firmware fix for that though.

and I just ordered another 3 drives and adapters tonight.  my customers love the 8164 and the cost of the drive + adapter is still a bargain compared to an original xbox dvdrom if it dies just once....

Good to know. Fine by me, got TSOP with X2 bios. Making a slim for my farther for xmas, and after trying to find a way to keep it internal, i decided the best way was an external one that he could use only when he needs it.

I modded the yellow dvd cable with a molex connector, and to trick the box into thinking the cd drive is closed. This way, instead of piping the IDE cable and the dvd connector out the back, and having to do lots of complex solder for the dvd cable, i just pipe a molex out. Gives it a clean look as i'll be using a Black rounded IDE cable, and aMolex male/male coupler with stretch housing and heatshrink tubing
