Resolution Confusion

Hey guys, I have a Polaroid 26" hdtv with a native resolution of 720p. But the thing is, when I play games on my 360 at the resolution of 720p it looks shit wheras when i change my settings on my 360 to display 1080i... It works, and looks a shitload better too. Im just confused as to why the shop I bought it from (PC World) said it had a maximum resolution of 720p when I can display 1080i no problem and it looks better than 720p. Any ideas what the fuck is going on?

Help would be much appreciated.

There are a whole lot of different things that could be happening

the best would be to post what kind of connection you're using (composite or component or VGA or HDMI)

Also the model TV you're using would help a lot

is it a CRT? an LCD? a Plasma?
