Ghosting Or Shadowing
« on: March 03, 2007, 04:38:00 AM »

how do i avoid ghosting or shadowing on my new Hdtv? i've noticed quite a bit of shadowing or ghosting on writing while playing my xbox 360. my 360 is currently connected through the scart lead as i am still awaiting delivery of my dvi-i to component adapter. will the picture be crystal clear when i switch to hd?!

Check to see if you are sending a 1080i or 720p signal from your xbox.

not exactly...

Ghosting can happen on analog signals, I'd hardly call it common, if you're seeing ghosting it typically means something is wrong, or something in your setup is junk.

What is common is ghosting when using a low resolution connection on a high resolution display. The reason for this is that it creates a perfect storm for ghosting due to noise in the power line.

If you don't have one pick yourself up a decent power conditioner run your TV and your Xbox through it and marvel at the improvement in picture quality.

I never used to use them but then I started getting some ghosting when I added a switch box and ran some longer video lines (it's a projector setup). I decided to get a power conditioner I spent $40US and it made a huge difference in picture quality... hands down the best $40 I've spent on my HT room.

What I meant by that is you'll never see ghosting on digital.  Thats what I meant by common.  I know if you see ghosting, something is usually messed up with your analog signal.

In either case, thanks for the explanation.

I just got a new 32" lcd a few days ago and I'm wondering what kind of ghosting youre talkin about and what other ones there are. Is it like where theres a bunch of static and you see double of the person or object on the screen? If you would ask later I have a Samsung LNT3242 which has an 8ms response which is another question I will have after I find out what we're talkin about here.
