Buying A New Phillips....
« on: January 29, 2007, 08:14:00 PM »

hi all...
i am in the market for a new tv. It has to be a philips because my uncle works in philips and he can get great deals.......
the ones that i am considering are....

1.   42PF9641D/79 42" LCD (1366 x 768p resolution) 8ms response time
2.   42PF9631D/79 42" plasma (1024 x 1080i) 6ms response time
3.   37PF9731/69 37" LCD (1920x1080p) response time 3ms

ok my main question is that the
plasma resolution is 1024 x 1080 = 1105920 pixels on the screen
LCD resolution is 1366 x 768 =  1049088

so the LCD has less pixels on the screen yet ppl say the LCDs are better than plasmas....and the plasma has the better response time compared the the LCD....

at the end of the day i want a tv that displays all my games in a good hi-def resolution...
What is the difference like when comparing a tv which has 1080p to one which does no like the one above...
Is there a huge difference in picture quality ? which is the best bang for the $$$$$$$.....

3. 37PF9731/69 37" LCD (1920x1080p) response time 3ms

When I saw this I had to take a further look, Beautiful display, but I found this in a review
The bad:
No 1080p input capability
One component-video sockets

Ouch, sounds like a deal killer.

As for your question about pixels I honestly don't have the technical knowledge to answer that. The only thing I could suggest would be the pixel pitch, however I would imagine that wouldn't make up for the huge gap of pixels between the screens, its possibly a typo though.

LCD better than plasma is up for grabs, nothing beats a crt.  It's all a matter of personal preference.

Plasma tv's suffer from "burn in" on the screen.  This is very bad for gaming.
