I have been looking for a new TV for a while and this is the TV I personally and going to pick up.  I'd rather have a CRT any day, but finding a *new* wide screen 1080p crt with vga/dvi in is near impossible from 35"-44".  This tv pretty much worked for everything I need, a 37" computer monitor, a 37" 1080p tv and a butt-load of ports to plug all my crap in!

I've taken the time to drive around and look over the unit's and the black is a little light but apparently that has something to do with the way the floor models are adjusted for max brightness.  I think it's a winner, you can get it for 1099 today from newegg.  + 100 for shipping.

Not bad at all, any other 1080p TV out there is much more expensive ($400+) or simply too big for my needs.

Are you talking about  Model: LVM37W3HD.  Sams Club has it for $1,047.88.  I was wanting that tv, but I don't have a Sams Club near by.  With shipping and tax it was going to come to $1200 and something.  That sux because I can only spend close to $1000.

It says that it does not have a tuner inside.

DOes this mean that the TV can display HD, like say an Xbox 360 is hooked up to it, but it cannot play HD TV channels if it is just hooked up to cable.

Like you have to have something HD hooked up to it, it just cant turn TV into HD if it is an HD channel...

I hope that all made sense.. or enough to get an answer..

That is correct, you can not get broadcast tv or cable for that matter without a tuner, it's strictly a monitor that you can use as a tv with the addition of a Tuner.

Also, as far as I can tell on the ports there is no coax in, which in my case is one hell of a problem. That means NO old school RF consoles without yet another thing to plug into my power strips. Sure I could mod up some A/v out via RCA, but I'm talking 6+ consoles that would have to be done on, I am looking around at options right now.

And I don't /wont have a receiver so I'll have to figure that out before my tax's get here in the mail. Crap.  Which brings me to another problem, in the event I can convert the signal from RF to composite will my TV run that without being able to select channel 3?  Maybe I'll have to get one after all.

 Edit:
epsilon72, when you turn down the back light can you "hear" a difference, reason I ask is a good deal of the lcd's I have played with as soon as I start to turn the back light down there is this god awful high pitched deathly sound they emit.  Most people don't seem to hear it but it makes me feel like someone is stabbing me in the ear drums. Just wondering if you could hear it audibly change pitch when you adjust it.

I have heard a very quiet very high pitched sound from mine on occasion, but not when I'm more than 2 feet away from it.  My ears are very sensitive to high pitched noises, and almost all the time I don't have a problem with it.

From my experience this is a problem with all LCD's, as I've heard the same phenomenon (although much louder) on a Dell 24" monitor.  If you want to get one of these westy's, it's best to get one from a place that has a good return policy, in case you get one with defects.

You do NOT want to go through the hassle of dealing with Westinghouse customer service.

For the price though, this monitor is absolutely unbeatable.

NOTE: I have the 42" LVM-42w2, not the 37w3.  I did own the 37w3 for a little while (long story rolleyes.gif ) and I noticed absolutely no noise coming from that display (different power supply).

Man I can't wait for my Tax return to get here so I can go pick this thing up!
Went and played around with it a bit and standard def looks pretty much like balls.   Now, it's possible that it was the feed that they were using but it was ghosting for sure.  I would be willing to bet there was no form of upscaling and it had to do with the interlaced signal. Swapped over to 480p (different signal / channel) and it looked fine w/ no ghosting.

Edit:

Maybe someone could answer this for me (from previous post^^).

Any one know a box that converts Coax Signal to RCA... And does that get rid of the fact you still need to be on Channel # 3?   I have no Idea, never had a TV with no Coax... but then again thus far no TV I own has even RCA in ohmy.gif  Am I going to have to use a VCR... because I don't believe in Broadcast television.. no turner..

I think that is exactly what I am going to have to do.  Not really my first choice of ways to pull it off but until I build a HD HTPC, that will work.

You know, it's also a shame there is no better cables for Sega Saturn than S-Video.. The hardware can actually output VGA res's but no software ever put it to use.... Oh well, at least I can play Panzaar Dragoon 2 Widescreen!

Thanks again for all your help man!

Unfortunately not.  It doesn't appear you can get any better than S-vid out.  sad.gif

this tv doesnt have a tuner, so you will need to run it through something else.like a cable box, or a tivo. hell, i think a vcr might even work...
