have just been discussing this on the other thread ..
http://forums.xbox-s...o...2887&st=30#

saying that the chip used is a programmeble chip, like the pic chips, with code that is ran like a microprocessor...
and all that it does is a more complex logic convesion .. (summit that simple logic gates canna do in one simple operation)

an alternative HAS been made public look on the above thread for a link to an italian site, where they posted the hex code to program a 16f8, and images and diagrams smile.gif ya dont have to know italian, pictures speaks a thousands word wink.gif

Hi, i have flashed firmware Xbox8164flasher_V1.0,installed 8164 adapters everything well, the problem is that doesn't read the original game, only backup,i wonder me if I have mistaken something in the installation of the adapter?

Check all of your solder points and make sure that you have everthing soldered to the right points.  The first one of these drives I modded I took WAY more time than than I needed.

I read the diagrams about 10 times, compared the actual board to the pictures to make sure I understood everything (some of the images can be confusing as they seem to be flipped upside down).

Note: If your drive works properly in the xbox, then the eject button, power button, v3.3, v5, v12 and grnd solder points are probably fine.  Check the other (4?) solder points.

I have flashed the firmware receved message "the firmware that was already on the drive was the "SAME"can you be resolved?

That happens to everybody.  My guess is that the firmware coder modified the drives original firmware to all it to work properly with original XBox discs, but didn't bother to update the actual firmware version.  Since the firmware flasher sees them as being the same version, it warns you that they are the same.  In already they are not the same.  Just the version number is the same.

OK, does all work, not boot the original games, only backup,i don't understand the why?is possible wrong installation the 8164adapter?

Is your xbox modded?  If not, that is your problem.  They are still working on getting it to load original media on an unmodded xbox.

If your xbox is modded, please check your solder points and insure that you have made the correct connections from the chip to the dvdrom's controller board.

I have flashed the dvd unit with the firmware available from the web site. I only seam to have problems with games that are on a dual layer disk when using any dvd to hard drive program. I think the problem occurs when they laser is moving between layers.

After further testing 9 games failed out of the 24 games I tested it with. One disc could not even be rec ongised. The other 15 games transfered without no problems, but the failure rate is still a bit high for my prefrence. I hope a new firmware will help to resolve any problems. All the extractions were taken from the original media, then tested in a original xbox drive if they failed witin the LG adapter. They all woked with the original xbox drive with no problems.

I also tested the most troublesome game on another original xbox drive and the transfer was a complete shocker, It failed at files in which the LG adapter had no problems with but it was able to transfer files that the lg could not. Like i said before i hope a newer frimware would solve these issues, cause this would make the product better than expected. Could it possible to transfer the firmware from a original lg xbox drive onto the lg with the adapter?

Im happy to help out, I hope this is where you would prefer bug issues to be reported in this forum. If you can solve the issues with Nightcaster and Yager or Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, I gather the product would work with all original media. The reason why I mention Nightcaster due to the fact it could not even be recongnised by any application, the same problem occurs with Brokensword: The Sleeping Dragon. Keep up the good work and soon these drives will be any serious Xbox owner.

I too am having trouble with this. Backups work flawlessly, no problems there. It's only original games that are having trouble. 3 games worked out of 8 tested. The other 5 would either hang while booting up, or give a dirty disc error. They arn't scratched or dirty, and the drive is brand new, so it has to be the firmware. I can understand if this is the case, since it's 1.0, it must have bugs that need to be worked out.

Anyone else have this trouble, or are your original games not even loading period (goes straight to dashboard as if no dvd is inserted)?

What originals are you having problems with?  If you are using DVD2Xbox, what exact files is it saying it failed to copy?

The only game I've run into this problem with was my original Halo2 disc.  All that failed to copy was the updatedash.xbe (or something similar to that...).

I can confirm this problem as well.  I just dusted off my PGR2 disc to test ripping it with the 8164 and ran into 21 files that failed to copy.  I then tested it using my samsung drive and the disc ripped fine.  It does appear to be a problem exclusive to dual layer discs.

Patx - please let me know if there's anything I can do to assist with troubleshooting.

So is this worth it or not? Im in need of a new drive as my phillips has died. Will it work on a softmodded box (to play originals) and where can i buy one diveno charges way to much to ship such a small thing(almost 50% of what you paying for the adapter thats to high)As far as the drive the cheapest i found was newegg for $22 shipped add that to the $29 shipped for the adapter and i have a total of $51 i can get a new thompson on ebay for $30 so is this really worth it? Will it be as reliable as my other xbox with the samsung drive in it? it just sux when its going to cost $50 or so to fix the xbox and i can buy a used one for around $80 sad.gif

If you go back to divineo and take a look, they are selling the drive with all mods already done for $69. Just got mine today, installation was a snap and so far everything I`ve put in has read perfectly. Was well worth the price for me. biggrin.gif
