arrr, good bit of investigation smile.gif ...

also narrows it down for when some1 comes to fixin the issue ...
as my uderstanding is it was broken on the last update when better disc recognition was implimented.
but i dont have the older version to test to actually see if it was broken or to compre etc..

and as far as the SS retrival is concerned im not sure if that ever worked properly either ?

but a step in the right direction...

Xbox8164adapter: Adapter to Connect LG-8164 PC Drive to Xbox1

I bought one of the pre-modded LG 8164 drives from Divineo. It kind of works: it boots single layer backups and originals.

But it does not read any files that are not in Xbox format sad.gif If I burn some AVIs on a DVD-R, and try to read them in XBMC, DVD drive reports "empty" status, even though disk is in it.

What could be the reason of this issue?
Should I open the drive and check all solder points?
Or is it bios (last X3 1.6)?
What can I do to get it working?

Thanks a lot in advance, guys!

i presume ya using XBMC to try and view these ?

if so there is a PC drive option .. try toggling that ?
also its ALWAYS a good tip to burn in UDF format  for anything ya may put into xbox
as it handles it MUICH better ...

plus it may be just REAL bad media ... but not as likly as its a 8164 ..
but more info would be better to get any clue why not etc

Well it looks like this is a dead project.  This drive has a lot of potential.  I got the adapter and was waiting for the firmware to come out that would allow this drive to play my games with my original BIOs but I went back to the site and it is gone and I noticed that Talismoon is selling a new adapter that is solderless so I went over checked their firmware and it is still the old firmware that will only work on a modded xbox.  I sent in an email asking "I am wanting to get my xbox back on Xbox Live and was wondering if their will be a firmware update that will allow the 8164 to use original BIOs for this to happen?"  They responded with "Hello,

Unfortunately the developer of the product is no longer supporting it.  We only manufactured and distributed the product, and do not have the original code.  So it seems unlikely that there will be a firmware update in the future.

Thank you,
CJ

"

Well That sucks!  Is their anyone out there that has modified their firmware to work on the original BIOs that wants to help me or anyone wanting to check it out and see if they can get it going?  Seems like it would have the possibilities of playing backups like the 605B hacked firmware and being able to rip 360 games and all.  But I am not smart at programing at all.  Also a quick note.  I have noticed that if I have a movie in the drive when I load my original BIOs it plays the movie.  Just says my original games are unrecognizable. Someone please be my hero!  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

They should revive this project or start a similar one now that many of the original xbox drives have began to fail.

New one? Maybe. Revival, I doubt it simply because IDE DVD Rom Drives are being replaced by SATA but as far as I know, you can use any DVD rom drive in the xbox (IDE) but you forfeit the ability to play original games. Meaning all you would have to do is simply make a back-up copy of any originals you may have that haven't already been duped and they would play. The 8164 adapters were also protected against dumping of the FW (AFAIK) so no chance of an update that way either.

EDIT: Maybe google could turn up any leads on a successful dumping of the adapter's FW??
