Just curious what the preference for video cards and screen resolutions is for the dwellers of this forum.

I keep my screen resolution at 1280x1024. I find that gives me the most viewing area without straining my vision. Though, if I'm playing around with some web design, I'll typically switch to 1024x768, and try to design around that resolution, since that's probably one of the most common resolutions used by your average person. Though, when you get used to resolution like 1280x1024, 1024x768 looks HUGE.

As for my video card, I typically lean towards ATI's product line. I currently have a Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB, which I bought a couple of years ago. After I first bought it, the card died (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) , which I sent back to ATI for repair, took about a month to get it back. During that time I was stuck using an old S3 Trio card, that was limited to 800x600.

Now, here I am again, using my old S3 Video card cause the fan on my ATI's VPU seized and the card essentially fried (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) . Luckily ATI issued me an RMA, though it'll be another month before I'll see my card back. So here I am stuck in the world of 800X600, and man does it suck trying to browse the net or work in any app at this resolution.

I guess I'll take a trip to my local Comp USA and buy their cheapest video card that supports 1280x1024, cause its getting real claustrophobic looking at my screen. It'll probably cost me at least $50.00 for thier cheapest card, but it's always good to have a back up.

Next time I upgrade my PC, I may just by a mainboard with integrated graphics, so that could be used as a back up.

My monitor is at 1440x900 and I use all of its widescreen glory. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
And I have a radeon 9600xt sapphire. or something like that...its been awhile since I had it built. haha

1680x1050 for my 21" and 1280x720 for my 32".

I use 1440x900 on my viewsonic 1912wb and an ATI radeon 9250 on my old comp.

I just got a new comp tho and it has an nvidia geForce something.

1440x900 - Counter Strike Source supports this 16:10 resolution on my Video7 8MS 19" widescreen monitor and it looks stunning.

You can also generally fit 2 A4 pages on one screen at this resolution if you zoom out enough.

My GFX card is a ATI Radeon 9550 256MB.

My PC is old though (AMD Duron set-up) but I was quite pleased with how much my monitor cost. £120 inc shipping.

1024 x 768 usually

Only nVidia for me and everyone I build for. No questions about it. I will not deal with ATis drivers or lack there-of. I don't want to troubleshoot with bad drivers or upgrade a card where I can't uninstall the old one. I am not sure if they have gotten better, I haven't bothered to look.

1280x1024 on my 17" Dell LCD and 1440x900 on my viewsonic 19" widescreen (same monitor as wahoo)

my dell (shutup) is 3 years old now and i have nvidia geforce 5250 fx, so nothing rediculous by anymeans but it supports my two monitors and photoshop so its all i really need

I've been thinking of trying an Nvidia, though I like ATI (when it doesn't die). As for ATI's driver, I've often seen people complain about them, though I've never had any problems with their driver, and their always updating them (good or bad?).

lol. I personally like to build my own PC, but Dell offers an excellent system. I particularly love Dell's cases. Their case is so extremely well designed for efficient air flow you don't need a ton of fans as you would on even an high-end retail case. My current case is a Lian-Li, which is crap comapred to a Dell case. I wish Dell sold thier cases for personal builds.

My card sucks, as does my monitor.

So I'm on a monitor that I don't even know who makes it, but it's CRT.
My card goes up to 1280x1024 but I'm on 1024x768

My new comp has a GeForce 6150 LE

thats pretty good i think.

Hope so bc it has an athalon X2 and 2 gigs of RAM.

1600x1200.. i used a radeon 9600xt, with a 19" monitor..

i ALWAYS design my webpages around 800x600, seeing as that's the lowest resolution, and it's near impossibly for anything to be strewn about if they have a too-small resolution. i always hate browsing websites on older computers, as it's a real chore trying to scroll horizontaly and vertically at the same time trying to discern what the content is trying to tell you.

I've seen smaller than 800x600, that's just the most common.
