near the top of the bevel and emboss window for layer styles, there will be a radio box that is filled in, titled "up". there will be another radio bo x directly to it's right, titled "down", if you choose down instead of up, you don't have to manually change the colors at the bottom of the window wink.gif

and yeah, invert the text

@Arjun: haven't you been introduced to the pen tool!? if you haven't i'd really learn if you plan on progressing in photoshop, it is definetely one of the best tools in photoshop.

I whipped up a crappy "rendering" tutorial.  I didn't explain how to add curves with the pen tool though.  Just hold control and drag a point.

since his tutorial didn't cover how to create curves wink.gif

(BTW.. if you're rendering out a perfect circle, use the circular marquee tool while holding shift)

I disagree. Pen tool is no where near the most important tool in Photoshop. Illustrator yes, but not Photoshop. The pen tool in photoshop is like the brush tool in Illustrator. It comes in handy, but not necessary.

He didn't say it was the most important. He said it was one of the best tools in PS, and I agree. Not to mention, if you only own PS, then the pen tool is much more valuable.

I was mostly basing my statement on this one: "haven't you been introduced to the pen tool!? if you haven't i'd really learn if you plan on progressing in photoshop...". The way he presents it makes it sound like ur a moron if you don't use the pen tool.

@ wahoo: Then ur not using Illustrator correctly tongue.gif

well... i'm not saying your a noob if you don't use it, nor you're a idiot if you don't. i was basically saying, that if you truly want to learn the program, and not just use it for making sigs, then i would recommend looking into the pen tool. it's kind of like saying, once you've learned how to swim, i'd learn the backstroke becuase it's a really great part of swimming. the backstroke isn't necessary, but it's a great thing to learn if you're a swimmer(i'm not swimmer, just an analogist)

Illustrator, isn't a crappy photoshop, but it IS alot like photoshop. you can't do half the things you can do in photoshop in illistrator, but nor can photoshop do half the things illistrator can do. illistrator isn't really designed for "great effects", it's more of a program to create brochures, logos, and things that don't need great detail, but  you need it to beable to get huge from a small image(vectors). In my opinion, photoshop can handle as much vector as i need it to. the pen tool, the oval tool, rounded rectangle tool, they all support vectors, and they do it quite well. and using those tools in conjunction with layer styles, you pretty much have yourself a bonified vector.

yea I know what your saying, and im not really saying that in a mean way, but theres always more ways then one to do something especially in PS. Its great how much youve utilized a tool in the program but no one tool makes PS its the fact it has so many that it creates a more artistic and less scientific way of doing things

im nopt familiar with photoshop at all, but i am a  little familiar with macromedia firewroks mx. i like this program much more than photoshop, the interface is simmilar, but diffrent still, i would also like to use the the pen tool, but again like lostboyz said, i would probably not call is usefull, or effective, i like the signature i made, and all i did was cut the halo character out with the magic wand, and make him transparent, got some symbols, firefox and avalaunch, and added them with a little xbox text to top it off along with a small www.xbox-scene.com on the bottom right.....anyone who wants a nice simple design on a sig liek that can ask me, altough i do need to resize it, i just got a pm form a moderator that i need top make it smaller....  mad.gif
