Patx,

I received the Adapter for the 8164B, fitted it which is straight forward and now the LG drive will read anything you throw at it and faster aswell.

Let us know how you go with the firmware tweak!!!

Nice one Patx

Actually we are not modding the 8050FW but we work on adding the Xbox athentification protocol to the 8164FW.The hardware is too different between both drive to implent the 8050FW to the 8164 drive.

I know it's a late reply but I did a forum search and found this.

So if your modifying the 8164FW to read original xbox games will the drive be usable when playing xbox live or is it too soon to ask?

I'm planing on using the drive on a un-modded xbox using Xbox Live but I'm wondering if MS will ban my xbox since I'm using a drive they don't support (8164B). Does XBL check? Won't MS only allow the LG 8050L since it's a official drive?

I know the Samsung 616T/F work because they are flashed with the 605BFW so XBL still thinks it's an original Xbox drive. Since you can't flash the 8050LFW to the 8164B I'm a little concerned about XBL working.

Sorry about my post. If all else fails I'll try my best to just get a 8163B instead.

hi,
Don't know if this is the right place...but I'll ask anyway...
I've tried using the 8164 without using the adapter that I one can buy on http://www.xbox8164adapter.com/
1st thing I did was to hook up a NAND gate and den Invert the Tray Out Signal (so now I get both the tray in and tray out), and then I hooked up LDCD and LDDVD together in a OR gate configuration, I can get the DVD to eject and everything, however it seems that the Drive pulses the LDCD/LDDVD signals for a brief moment before the unit is actually fully initialised, thus the dashboard always shows up as "unknow disc". Putting the disc in and then resetting the xbox will make it load...but I wonder if there's an easy way to address this problem without having to resort to buying the Adapter?? I reside in Singapore, and as such getting the adapter is gonna be a problem.

Hey, just got my 8164adapter a few weeks ago, and today i got my "LG Intern DVD-spiller 16x GDR-8525b"
and thats not right, i ordered an "LG Intern DVD-spiller 16x GDR-8164". And didnt get that  grr.gif

So now i wondered if the LG Intern DVD-spiller 16x GDR-8525b will work??
If not, will this work  "LG ELECTRONICS DVD-Rom 16x52x Bulk black (GDR-8164RBB)" ??
If so im gonna order from another store.

Are there any difference LG Intern DVD-spiller 16x GDR-8164 / LG DVD-Rom 16x52x Bulk black (GDR-8164RBB)

Cheers

Hmm, anyone?
Im gonna send it back to the store and order a new 8164 drive, but if the 8525b would work, that could save me some work.

So does this 8164b drive actually support extracting xbox 360 games? or is this a future planned capability?

I happen to have one of these drives.  I flashed it with the 8164 flasher version 1.   I put an xbox 360 game in and opened up iso buster and it told me the session was 30 gigs.  I tried to extract it anyways and it would hang there at 0% and never go up.  I only waited about 15 minutes.

Can someone verify the use of this drive for extracting the xbox 360 games?  If so what am I doing wrong?

Has anyone seen or tried the Talismoon Solderless 8164 DVD Adapter?  Divineo china has them in stock for $23.99.  I was curious how well it works.

The following is the link to the product from the manufacturer's website:
