Disable Dvd Check On Softmodded Xbox?
« on: April 17, 2006, 01:36:00 PM »

Sorry bro, you can't with a softmod, because to remove dvd check would mean for your xbox to boot a bios with the dvd-check off, but a softmod, launches the original bios, then launches a boot loader which loads your hacked bios.. so no you can't.. you'd have to install a chip, or do a tsop and edit the dvd check in the bios.

for a 1.6 xbox, it is impossible to do a tsop flash because MS eliminated the tsop chip entirely for the newer versions.  but you could still do a modchip install, or keep your box softmodded and disassemble the dvd drive and take out the pcb where the ide cable connects and eliminate the entire casing and laser assembly.  With this method, the xbox will still believe there is a dvd drive attached, but it will be far smaller (and useless).

You can't afford the 10-15 dollars a duox2 cromwell chip would cost?

I asked about the temperatures in another thread , I was wondering why the temps were so much higher than my V 1.0 bxox.

The reply that I got was that I should ignore the temp readings in the V 1.6 because they're wrong.
Does anyone know if this is true ?

I've set the fan on 4.5x  to keep the temps down just in case, but its kinda loud though .

P.S  sadponyguerillaboy,

don't mean to hijack your thread , its just that when you mentioned the temp thing, it reminded me of the other thread where I asked the question.

correct, the 1.6s dont report the temps, so any software will give you inaccurate readings

The xbmc guys a couple of weeks ago found the 1.6 cpu temp sensor/codes . Xbmc is the best dash as well to boot.

04-04-2006 fixed: XBMC should now read and display the right GPU and CPU temps for 1.6 xbox´s
Thanks goes to pablot for the fix

Well, I have had a few days to test this new setup.  Technically everything works fine without any issues, only a time delay.

For anyone thinking about doing this, just be aware that your dvd drive will always apear as open.  You could hardwire it to make it think it's closed, but I may want to use it in the future and do not wish to go this route.

Also, when powering off the xbox, there is about a 5-8 second delay before it actually powers off.  This is due to the dvd drive thinking it's open.  Just a heads up.  But other than that small little glitch, it works well.
