Any possibility of using doing this with a Saturn or Megadrive controller?

Essentially you could mod any controller and hook it up to the Xbox.  Controllers with more than 8 controls are a little more cumbersome to do, but very possible..  Also, I've included a pic of the completed mod in Part I of this Guide just so everyone can see how it will look when they complete all 3 parts!

Why not just make a box with ports for nes, snes, genesis, ps1. Have the box contain an xbox controller card and then push the works to the xbox? Seems a lot simpler and one wouldn't have to have a bunch of adapters sitting around.

I was thinking of doing something like that using a VGA Switching Box with multiple VGA Ports, but my only issue was that I didn't have all those controllers.  Plus, wiring all those D-Subs would have been a pain..  blink.gif

Just to let everyone know, I am the author of this article on AltHack.com.  It has been mislabeled everywhere it has been posted.  This Article is PART I of III.  The idea is to route the NES controls through an existing Xbox Controller (UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, START, SELECT(BACK),A,cool.gif and use Push Button Switches for the additional buttons housed in a customized project box (R.TRIGGER, L.TRIGGER, R.THUMB, L.THUMB, X, Y, BLACK, WHITE).  The NES Controller is hooked up to the Project Box via the PS2 Connector, and the Project Box is hooked up to the Xbox via the cord off the modded Mad Catz Controller.  I divided the Article in Parts to give people the chance to get all the things they need to perform the mod, and I figured the span of 3 days wouldn't be too bad.

BTW.  I don't appreciate being considered a theif.  I've received an email saying I "stole" images of an NES PCB for use in this mod.  In fact, the accusing person(s) has sent me a link to what I have taken, and quite frankly it looks as though someone got out a box of Crayola and instructed a small child to draw an NES PCB. I used a program called InkScape for my diagram of the NES PCB. It is completely vector and further proof can be shown if need be.

Part II of this Article will be up shortly today and Part III should be up tomorrow showing the completed mod.  If anyone deserves credit they will receive it in Part III, and quite frankly the community of Xbox-Scene as a whole deserves the credit, because without them I wouldn't even know where to start with any form of Xbox Modding.

Thank You,

Jordan Roberts

Your probably being dense on purpose, but the "thief" part comes from the fact you present all this like it's your idea, while there was a tutorial posted for amiga then genesis YEARS AGO, not to mention the several people from xbox-scene forums who have made similar hacks and posted pictures.

I shouldn't have to explain this to everyone, but instead of having EVERYONE jumping to conclusions and finger pointing, I guess I'll just save a few more people some keystrokes.  Well if anyone would consider the fact that only Part I and Part II have been posted and there's still a Part III to be posted tomorrow....... Where do Credits usually go? At the end? Yes.  There's several sources that I site at the end of Part III.

Included in those sources are bek (Amiga Mod you mentioned), Ted (who years ago modded a Dreamcast controller with an NES on DevCast),  Xbox-Scene as a whole (the site that got me into all this in the first place), my Brother (a walking electrical encyclopedia), http://pinouts.ru/, etc...  Never once in these guides have I put myself on some pedestal as the "Great Innovator of Controller Mods."  I am just writing something that hopefully people might find some use in, plain and simple.

And what's with the instant insults around here all of a sudden?  I express somewhat of a mature view and get slammed... Come on people! dry.gif

you know ive made tons of mods that i didnt realise someone else did.. its a big world out there.. not everyone sees every mod out there on the one site of a trillion sites out there... and personally i was inspired to do a mod from this tut.. the other one looks like ass and uninspiring to me... it is the world wide web where you share info... if you have a problem dont freakin cry about it, get a freaking patent.. oh wait... you cant get a patent on a mod your taking from someone elses copyrighted product!!! learn what a community forum is here for... to help others and thats all he did...this is why i stopped all my work with stepmania... all everyone did was whine and cry about someone stealing their work that they stole from someone else and cried about why they werent credited for it.. and it was a community forum based on helping each other.. personally i told everyone to feel free to steal all my work and hope it helped them.. cause if it wasnt i would be doing it for some big wig corporation and not for free

Not to bring up an old matter, but has anyone wrote a reasonably detailed guide (Pictures probally not even needed) as to how to wire a Saturn controller for an Xbox? I know it seems a bit odd but, if anyone has seen one or has wrote/can write, can they please link me or do so? Thanks.

To make everyone happy i can site a lot of sites that have done this before but not in this manner, it was back in 2004, phillip torrone from engadget did a usb nes controller mod. His article was broadcast all over the net, hackaday, ect. Then in 2005 a company by the name of Sanwa Supply released a usb gamepad that resembled the nes controller and proceeded to make money of it. Now you can buy a nes controller with a usb port just about newhere. And i have read a few reports of vga cables and such being used.Is boddo going to complain to engadget about torrone's use of his idea, i think not. Boddo you did not patent this idea, simply put, that is like  saying everytime a tire is sold the person that made the wheels gets credit. As we can all see we are all here for one purpose and that is to do mods, they all have the same result just set up a little different. if we had saw this article while we were producing the mod we would have given ample credit for it, mostly because it would have saved jordan more time, but we didn't and so we are stuck with a he says/she says BS, (i am not calling anyone a "she"), As far as i am concerned torrone gets my credit and everyone else that helped inspire this mod, as he was the first to publish unless someone can show a older article before 2004.

BTW boddo,in your emails, u told me you were a loyal member of xbox scene but yet you just joined on the 8th of april, did you just join so that you could yell at us?And if you had this mod done in 2003 why was there nothing until 2006? Did you somehow forget you were the creater of this mod. how does being a two day old member  make you a loyal member, i am confused. ne1 wanna clear this up for me? And i am sure i will get something to the extenet that "oh well you are only a two day old member also", well ppl i never self proclaimed that i was a "loyal member" of the scene. I just recently found the site thanks to boddo's complaining to me.

hey zeck it is quite easy to do the 15 pin vga mod.. put a female end on the xbox controller ( i say female end cause the male end would break first i wouldnt want to have to open up the controller to fix) and wire all the buttons inside the xbox controller to each pin...write down what pins go to what and then just make them match on the other controller

i gotta say i was a little disapointed when i got to the article and saw the picture of the finished product.  I guess i'll have to wait until the 3rd part is released (i only saw one and two, maybe i'm missing it), but the picture of the final product has me baffled...Do you have to use that huge box and the nes controller together?  Is that huge box suposed to be like a arcade controller?  I was hoping the mod was just going to be a NES controller straight in to the xbox w/ an adapter, maybe a few extra buttons modded in to the nes controller.

If that huge box is necessary (which i assume it is because it houses the madcatz controller parts, which are used to interface with the xbox), I'd like to see the original NES controller not be modded at all, just simply plug it in to the box which acts like an adapter, and away you go.

also, the dude forgot to put LEDs everywhere smile.gif

The project box isn't "necessary", but it makes things a lot easier for those who aren't good at cramming wires and such into the Xbox Controller itself.  Plus, adding extra buttons to the NES controller would have required using a VGA cord as the connection and I found the PS2 Connector to be the easiest.  It's all a matter of preference, so once Part III is up (tonight) then you can pick it all apart and make something completely new.

Here is the article on how to wire up a Genesis controller for use on an Xbox using a VGA cable:
http://www.xerxes3rd...ontrollerOnXbox

Back when I wrote that article (I think it was mid-2004 when it was originally posted on the hardmods.net forums), I made no attempt to submit it as a news article to xbox-scene news.  Apparently the author (or someone) of the NES to Xbox adapter (sircapgun) submitted his guide as news, and the moderators of xbox-scene agreed that it was important enough news to be posted on xbox-scene.  It doesn't appear that sircapgun claims that his work is entirely original; in fact, he stated in one of his posts that he gives credit to the author of the Amiga to Xbox controller guide, which I utilized as well in my guide.

I think the issue here is that some people don't think a NES to Xbox adapter article should be posted as news on xbox-scene.  If you have an issue with this, take it up with the xbox-scene moderators, not with sircapgun.

Well, actually I didn't submit anything to Xbox-Scene for news.  I was shocked to wake up the next day after posting my guide to see it on the front page as a news item.  Ever since,  people have continued to have a fit about it, but oh well.  I'm happy the mods decided to post it, but please let me clarify that I didn't submit ANYTHING to them...
