I read that about 4 months ago on a tech website when I was searching for unlocking software.

Didn't work on my WD800JB drive.

Did a bit of searching and yes, this will work fine. UNLESS the drive is in maximum security mode, then it will only take a user password, and not a master password. Im not sure about xbox drives though, so if you say it works, then it must work. Congrats. laugh.gif

Should work on stock hdd's, but haven't tested yet. I spent a few hours searching for the link to that tech website I found this on, but can't find it.

You sure you "figured it out?" Or did you come across it on the internet like I did?

I ran across that password around the same time TeamXecuter posted news about unlocking software on their website. The tech page instructed people to use the Ultimate Boot Disc (which has ATAPWD on it) to unlock the drive with the master password. WDC (is Western Digital Corporation).
I even tried it on my locked 80 gig (WD800JB), but didn't work.

hello,

No - i did not find it on the internet.

I use PC3000 ISA ( it is a Data Recovery Hardware for Harddisk )

In the Software für Wester Digital for EB Drives ,

the Password is shown.

so i guess it will work with every EB Disk

http://www.eio.com/p...rddrv/1398.html

those with wd hard drives can try this to unlock them not sure if it works found it on another site.........

WDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWD

It MUST be in all capitals. I used the program ATAPWD. The commands are ERASE PREPARE, immediately followed by ERASE UNIT. It will not accept this password simply to unlock the drive. (Not if the drive was locked with the user password, as the XBox does) I successfully used this on a WD80EB, which is the standard XBox WD hard drive. Keep in mind, this will WIPE OUT all the data on the drive!! But, if you have a drive that is locked, and you don't care for the data on it, this is a way to make it useful again.

I did ERASE PREPARE, and after that ERASE UNIT but I got an error message with: timout busy. And now even atapwd wont recognize my harddrive anymore sad.gif

OK, it works now, after turning off the hdd it was recognized by ATAPWD again.

Did ERASE PREPARE, ERASE UNIT, put in Master password and got Busy error. Now just wait, and after 30 minutes press F5 to see that the drive is unlocked!  biggrin.gif

Yes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

But every data that is on the drive will be erased.
