It's Tricky...xbox Hangs At Boot No Mod
« on: February 13, 2006, 07:56:00 PM »

I have a V1 xbox that does the famous green and red flash on boot.  It happens right at the point MS should appear below the green orb.  This is a virgin xbox with no modding of any sort.  Does that mean the HD is dead or could there be other problems as well? Thanks

ahh the good old no error code. Stupid kernel 3944

What happnes if you coldboot it with a game in the drive? If it plays the game then its a dash issue, otherwise it's a botched dvd drive or hdd.

Yeah, that was the first thing I did.  With a game in the same thing happens, it just takes a little longer because it reads the disk.  But the same your xbox needs service comes up.

If the DVD drive is dead wouldn't I not get an error booting with without a game?

And if it is the HD is a modchip my only hope for fixing it?  I had planned on softmodding with a larger HD.

Yeah a modchip is the only way to fix it.

Well how do I determine that it is in fact the HD that is causing the 'your xbox needs service' error?

Since there is no error number reported on the page.

I think if you unplug the ide cable from the xbox then boot it up, your xbox will give you an error code.

You should get "8" meaning no HDD found, if you get that and not the no code error screen then im pretty sure its your hard drive.

I think that will work anyway, try it.
