Two penguins are walking on the South Pole.
Penguin 1 is penguin 2's son.
Penguin2 isn't penguin 1's father.
How is this possible? (I know it's a stupid one)

A man walks up to you and says, "Everything I say is a lie."

Is this man lying or telling the truth? Why?

it's a whatchamacallit... oxymoron or something, not a riddle.  Anyway the answer is thats it's not possible.  If he's telling the truth then well.. he can't be cause everything he says is a lie and if he is lying then everything he says is the truth.

This isn't a paradox.
What if that guy lies sometimes, it's possible to lie sometimes isn't it rolleyes.gif
So he's lieing in this particular moment, he doesn't lie always, he lies sometimes.

It's yellow, it turns at 150 MPH and then it's red, what is it?

Nope, both are wrong.

I'd better say:
It's yellow, then it spins around at 150MPH and then it becomes red.

QUOTE (veg @ Jan 11 2004, 02:04 PM)
It's ten o'clock in the morning and a man and his dog set out on a walk to the next town. The man is able to walk at the constant rate of speed of 5MPH. In the mean time his dog takes off and runs ahead to the next town then turns around and heads back to the man. Then sets off for the town again. The dog keeps doing this until the man makes it to his destination at 12 noon. The dog was running at a constant speed of 15MPH.

Given: The man walked 10 miles.

How far did the dog travel?

Bonus question how many trips did the dog make?

hint: You have to ignore acceleration and deceleration.

The dog made 3 trips.

This one is a classic (at least inmy country):
In a room (I'll call it the lamproom) there is a lamp.
You're in a room next to the lamproom.
In front of you there are three lightswitches, one of them is used for the lamp in the lamproom.
How can you find out which of the tree switches is for the lamp, when you can go into the lamproom only once?
There is no window or anything trough which you can look into the lamproom.
