First off, your birthday is not a holiday.

Second of all, I don't think anyone gives a fuck what you get for easter.

Ontop of all that, you still can't be half of a religion.  I don't care if you celebrate Chanukah and do nothing else.  That just means you're not Jewish, but other people in your family are.  I know a million people who celebrate Xmas and don't believe in God.  That doesn't make them half Christian.

Do you people just not grasp the concept of religion?  Religion isn't about holidays.  It's about believing in a god or superior being.  It's not about hunting for eggs or opening presents from under a tree.  Just because you celebrate the holidays, that doesn't make you half of a religion.  When you truly believe in two religions and attend both of their church/temple gatherings, then you can be half of a religion.

I know people that don't celebrate any holidays.  Does that make them half Jehovah's Witnesses?

Uh, I think you're missing the whole damn point. A person can be 'half jewish' because even though judaismn is a religion, it is also a race of people, so someone could be half jewish. Doesn't take an ounce of brains to figure that one out

According to Orthodox Hebrew tradition, you can be Jewish by blood, but you either are or aren't. There are no halves. To be specific, the tradition states that you are Jewish if your mother is (and only if your mother is... if your father is Jewish but your mother isn't, you're not Jewish, period).
Why was this tradition created? Way, way back in the day (say, 2000 B.C., give or take), a saying among the Hebrews was 'invented': "Any fool knows his Mother, but only a wise man knows his Father", meaning to indicate that it's obvious as to who your mother is (she gave birth to you, that's pretty hard to deny or conceal), but any man could've conceived you, not necessarily your father (your mother's husband, presumidably, as bastard births were often frowned upon to the point where mothers would give up their children).
