Getting On Live With A Modded Box?
« on: January 31, 2006, 05:42:00 AM »

Ok, I called and asked my brother yestarday how I could play  on live with my chip. He said something about an app called config magic, which locks my hard drive.

But, I remembered he had like 5 old hard drives from where he used to mod for people, and two of them have both evox and msdash. And one just boots msdash. Could I use one of these, then just unplug my modchip?

Thanks in advance!

no way you can have your Chip on and go online, sorry you got things mixed up, the talk about locking a HDD is only needed when you replace the stock with a new HDD, as to get onto XBL you must boot the Stock BIOS aka the BIOS your prolly running now(what came out of the factory), this BIOS will require the Drive to be locked to your system, do not lose the HDD key as the Drive can't be unlocked easyily(costs money) without it. so in the end if u wanna play on live you need the chip Off, HDD Locked and an original factory Pressed copy of your Game, no other options, failure to turn off the chip while on live results in having your XBOX being permanently BANNED from XBL servers, means no XBL chip on or off, HDD locked or not locked, to uban the machine your looking at more money being spent

Sorry if I left it out, but I don't want to go on with my chip on, I plan on buying the games I want to playon xbl.
And as for teh bios it isn't factory, I changed the fan speed to 40% and changed the LED color.

Just lock your hard drive you have in your xbox. And turn your chip off and if it boots to the MS Dashboard you should be fine.

I have an upgraded hard drive that doesn't have the MS dashboard on it, which is why I was wondering if I could just use another one that does (and will boot msdash) and unplug my mod chip.

If not, what files do I need to run it (I have xboxbook.xtf msxboxdash.xbe xbox.xtf and xboxdash.xbe, because those are the ones my hd. doesn't have).

any harddrive can go on xbox live. use config magic or sumthin to lock the drive. boot with the chip off and go on live its as simple as that.

EDIT: just realized u dont have msdash onyour drive. boot halo2 or some xbox live game. dont have ur xbox connected to the internt. log onto xbox live and it will auto update from the halo2 disc then youll have  a updated msdash on your drive.

EDITAGAIN: if you have msxboxdash.xbe rename it to xboxdash.xbe and boot with the modchip off. also make sure your harddrive is locked to your motherboard.

Thank you, and will simply unplugging my modchip suffice? I'm kind of afraid to do that, because there are still two wires coming from the chip to the board.

You can pull  the chip off the header and that will disable it. But most chips have a way to disable the chip, like x3's you hold the power button for 1 sec and it will turn the chip off. What chip do you have?
