hey, im having a problem upgrading my friends xbox hard drive from the normal one to a 120gb one. when i try to unlock it, it wont unlock and i know it because whenever i type in 'lockhd -a' it says that the drive is still locked and i need to unlock it. the only thing i could think of the reason for the problem was that i installed another friends xbox eeprom and junk on the same hard drive (Maxtor 6Y10PO i think, its compatible. i checked). i dont know how to remove my old friends xbox info and start off the xbox like new. could this be a problem? and how can i reformat it so that it might be able to unlock again. HELP PLEASE. thanks.

Are you trying to unlock it, so you can relock it properly?  What error does the stock M$ bios give?  Is this box chipped or soft modded?

If you're upgrading from stock to arge drive then you have a chip?

So you don't need the manager.

Steps:
1- use slayers disk, or config Magic
2- Unlock the HDD(stock)
3- Place new HDD in
4- Load slayers CD and install what you want and then choose to lock it.

XboxHDD manager is for unlocking HDD's that you don't have a EEPROM to get into. Say you take a HDD out of another xbox and you want to put it in another one. Then if you didn't unlock it then you use xboxhdm.

For what your doing you are using the wrong software and the wrong method.

no, ive done this many times before and its how ive upgraded my xbox to 120. its softmodded... all i'm trying to do is unlock it. i go through the correct process many times, but it just wont unlock. i use XBOXHDM and whenever i type in 'unlockhd -a' it does the right thing and says 'detecting drive status...' then shows the hard drive information afterwards so i would guess that its unlocked. wrong. i type in 'lockhd -a' right afterwards and it says that its already locked.

I can't find the post I made about this, but I know it was answered to me awhile back.

In the tutorial it says some computers won't relock the HDD. It's a bios security feature. I  have the same issue with my HP. It won't lock the HDD. I put it in my buddies computer and it locked fine.

Look up the tutorial and you'll see the same thing, from others who posted. You can get through everything and it will say something about security enabled. Some computers just won't lock it.

Sorry hope this helps, and I was in no way trying to say you were dumb or anything, and I didn't see the softmod in your post originally so I assumed(bad judgeent) you were doing it the opposite.

yeah, no harm taken... ok, so far ive tried to unlock it from 2 different computers. both from which i have been able to unlock other hard drive on them before. also, when i try to do it and it gives me the hard drive security features, it says that Security supported and Security enabled and Security locked are all on yes when im guessing it should be NO. anyone have an idea on what i should do? thanks.

Alright well i know im bringing back a dead topic but he didnt get an answer and i need and andwer too...I have just cloned my drive onto a friends and got his working perfectly on his xbox.

well i go to hook mine back up and it gives me an error 05...so i figure i just lock it and im ok right?  well i lock it and it then gives me an error 06 so i figure i locked it with the wrong epprom so i go to unlock it...it doesnt work.

i have all three discs ive ever locked a hard drive with they all worked great befor but now they will not unlock this hd...all three say they are trying to unlock the hd then go to "detecting drive status"  and all the disc say its locked...any ideas on how to get it to unlock...i have both epproms ive ever locked it with

Sorry to pop up such an old thread, but I have a similar problem..

I'm using xboxhdm to build a new hard drive for a friend on an old xbox in which the old hard drive went bad. I build an eeprom reader from unicron's tutorials and successfully read the eeprom. I transferred the files from my modded xbox, the c and the e drive, and took the eeprom.bin file and created an iso using xboxhdm tools. Using the disc burned from that iso, I began to create a new xbox drive. The problem I'm having is getting the new drive to lock. Everything seems ok when I type lockhd -a, but the error the xbox gives me when I install the drive is error 5 (hard drive not locked).

The message I receive after typing lockhd -a and then y to continue

HDD Firmware revision:    18.20D18
HDD Model:                     Yes
Security supported:          No
Security locked:               No
Security frozen:               No
Security count expired:     No

Get a new hdd. This hdd cannot be locked - Security supported: No.

Check the contents of the eeprom file in Windows with LiveInfo beta 3, the serial no should match the xbox  sticker's serial no.

Have you successfully locked a drive using this PC in the past? Some motherboard manufacturers have been known to specifically block locking commands from reaching HDDs, in order to stop "troublemakers".

Is this a typo as well? Is the hdd a 20Gb or 200Gb? A WD200BB-60AUA1 ?

Iit's a 20 gb hard drive. The last hard drive I locked using this mobo was a 160 gb hard drive. My intention is to try a different hard drive, and if that doesn't work, try locking with a different motherboard. I will update when I get a chance.

Hey people im somewhat new to the modding community and am having a similar problem.  Though my problem is that i can lock it and unlock it but my xbox cant read it. i need to use my eeprom code by typing the entire thing in to unlock it and lock it. when i lock it it shows security support yes and security enabled yes then the rest is no. i tried to unlock my xbox retail hd and then i lock it again and it works. and i mean i type the entire password in. help appriciated since xbox dosent unlock it and i have tried another hd too and it does the same thing with the same code 06.

The HDD passcode is based on the HDD key (stored in the console's EEPROM) and the HDD's own serial number.

This means that the code you need to use to lock any given HDD, is unique to that specific HDD. If you're attempting to use the same code with both drives it's not gonna work.

Backup your system EEPROM, then use the Linux based locking tools included with XBoxHDM to lock the drive by having them read that EEPROM backup directly. This is not only easier, it also prevents you from accidentally placing a lock on the drive with an unknown code via, say, a typo (not easy to unlock if you do this).
