But seriously though thanks for that intervention.  I know what you mean, I think that England constantly feel like they 'owe you a favour'.

If not the world the maybe just the control of oil?

Honestly, I think intervention in WWI, where there was no clear moral prerogative on either side, was a mistake, and not because I'd want the British speaking German.  For one thing, the Kaiser never wanted to even go to war with Britain, much less invade it.  He sought to make Germany the paramount continental power (sorry France!), which would've been a useful counterbalance to the Bolsheviks and eliminated the need for a bipolar cold war later on.

I would agree that there is a clear interest in maintaining fuel reserves, but I don't think that is an inappropriate focus for our foreign policy to have.  Unless you plan to start bycicling everywhere, never using plastic products, etc, I would advise you to look at the need for oil realistically.

That said, I don't think Iraq is just about the oil.  I think it is fundamentally a strategic political issue, to which the oil and humanitarian reasons tie in.

All of you dumb fucks that are opposed to America and are posting negative comments it, you are just a bunch of pussies.  Walk into any Wal-Mart in America that isnt overrun with foreigners (no insult to foreigners, just making a point) and speak aloud any of your previous comments.  See how fast you get your asses kicked by a bunch of fucking Americans.  And, to agree with previous posts, if you dont like it get the fuck out.

Pissed off American

On the oil topic.. hehehe.. I find it funny.. read up on oil reserves in the world.. most forcast 30-50 years max of oil left in the world.. some go up to 100 years on their estimates, but no one going over 100 years.. so.. since 1900-2003 we have used up what.. about 60% of the oil worldwide? Not just saying us and in USA, the us I am saying is the entire world.. Should make it very interesting in the future.. although I am sure there will be many synthetics.. but I am pretty sure you cant make gasoline from synthetic oil.. hopefully we will be using fuel cells or some other non polluting solution soon..

And again Lizard Man... very intelligent words, it is a pleasure to read your posts..  beerchug.gif

I agree that it should be interesting to see what direction the world takes, but I also think that a lot of the concern over the scarcity of oil is ideological rather than material in nature.  People from all walks of life have made a living off predicting that humanity will outstrip this or that resource ever since the Enlightenment (not to mention whoever is in control of the resource predicted to be scarce benefits greatly from the perception of a reduced supply), and again and again humanity has demonstrated its resourcefulness both in actual scarcity and in finding new sources.  Up to a 150 years or so, no one would have said we'd be getting oil out of anything but whales, and the big concern was whether we'd run out of whales...

In short, I think we'll be alright...On the petroleum front alone, Africa remains largely untapped, and Siberia as well; in one due to politics and in the other due to difficulties in refining and transporting...I have a feeling those will get figured out when it becomes sufficiently necessary.

ohhhh.....i get it... biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

and don't worry about north korea. they have too many internal problems to worry
about the US. It's actually our fault that they are so pissed. They get most of their
money from selling missles (to afganistan, etc.) and we put a stop to that. Moreover,
we told them back in 1995-6 that they can't use anything which is nuclear in nature,
such as Nuclear Power. So, they shut off their Plants, but now their country is running
low on energy. We compensate by giving them food annually by the millions. north
korean is trying to open up the power plants again, but the US said that we will stop
shipping food if they do this. South Korea is with good relations with the North and
it does seem possible that they may reunite after all. but with the US always intervening,
it may take longer than expected. Sure, they have over 1 million soldiers in their country,
they have missiles that can hit anywhere in South korea, Japan, and the coasts of America,
but they know that it's a losing battle. America and South Korea has a more advanced
technology and we will hit them twice as hard, twice as fast.

If anyone wants to watch a good movie about the 2 Koreas, watch Shiri and Joint Security
Area (JSA). By far the best movies i've seen in a while.
