My XP comp has been on for about, oh, 6-8 months. It's gone down maybe 4 times during that period because I've updated it with the Update Wizard.
XP's solid as a rock, unlike what most of the OS's MS has released are. So don't bash it just because you can't find the Windows XP Pro ISO on KaZaa.... =-P

Could it be that Apple gives away tons of PC's to hollywood, graphic designers, etc. and that is why most of these applications run better on the Apple? Or could it be that Apple actively pursued these markets early, when the PC was tackling other markets?

Most of us would agree that their is certain software that runs better on Apple, but the *reason* is not superior architecture. It is just a matter of development of the application for that particular environment.

...but seriously, what is the percentage worldwide of mac users compared to PC? Prolly no more than 20% Mac, and I am being generous with that number..

Quite generous, actually. If my memory serves me correctly, it's more like 5%.  smile.gif

I own both a PC and a Mac

PC - WinXP and Mac - Jaguar OSX

and I am in the Graphics industry

I would just like to point out that the Mac is Significantly FASTER, and more STABLE with graphics applications (talking mainly about Adobe, Quark and Macromedia) than the PC.  The OS is also more stable and capable on the Mac, enabling more apps to run simultaneously (whilst independantly), and smoothly than on the PC.

Whoever said that PCs are becoming more commonplace in the graphics environment is totally wrong...  the only even graphics related place that I know of that has more than a couple of PCs running graphics software is Kinkos... and just go to any Kinkos and look at the amount of people that choose the PCs to use over the Mac.... not very many...

For comparison purposes both have around the same specs

P4 vs G4
2.4Ghz vs Twin 1Ghz
768 RAM 768 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 4 both

PCs are great tho... if you want to program, play a wide range of games or watch (but not edit) movies...

just two last notes:

I cannot ever remember receiving a trojan or virus on a mac that had any effect (PC only for pretty much every major virus - if not all...)

And price and style - You DO pay extra for a mac because of its shell... but the difference is only marginal, also the casing is not just eye-candy.... the G4 tower is the most easy access case I've ever seen, and the new iMac screen is unbelievable in adjustablity.

Also, try finding a PC with DVD burning capabilities and high end sys specs for the same price as a mac, and then if you find one... compare the quality...
now you know what you're paying for...
