Any Generid NPN signal transistor will do. A lot of the things I have for parts scrounging have 2SC1815, and 2SA933, which functionally replace the 2N3904 (and 2N2222P) and 2N3906 in circuits I build, except they are pinned ECB, rather than EBC.

I would personally not recomend this design.. converting the 5Vsb to 3.3Vsb using just a zener is NOT a good design, its gonna draw lots of current and the zeners are not very stable
