$35k for a mkIII? no way in hell... you're thinking of the mkIV, the last one sold in the us. the mkIII was the body style before the f&f one. here's my old one..

one of these should set you back like $5k tops... usually around 2-3

I test drove an 04 RX-8 and a 03 350Z last Wednesday.

I was quite disappointed with the RX-8, the only thing I really liked about it was the interior styling, aside from that I though it was pretty slow and handled only so-so in comparison to my former WRX.

the 350Z was very nice, much happier with the acceleration and handling characteristics and it felt like a much more solid car. The particular one I drove was kind of dumpy, I think the previous owner really beat on it.

So if I can find a decent price one one I might consider one of those.

I also got a tip on R32 and R33 Skylines for sale in my price range  biggrin.gif  so I'm checking that out but staying cautiously optimistic.

If you want a out of the box sport car, then get a s2000. Not the fastest of the bunch, but it's reliable with no bullshit problems.

Somebody mentioned a 300zx. My friend has a 91, and all I can say DAMN! Fast car, great handling, looks great. But, and this is a rather big but. If you work on your own car, then you will grow to hate it. It has one of the tightest engine bays I have ever seen. Even after ripping out all the emissions crap, and the usual mods, there is still no room to turn a wrench.

Now the 240, another great car, but not stock. Let's be honest, the American spec 240's are shit untill you drop some money on it. Car basically needs a new drivetrain to be a competitor.

The holy grail of Japanese imports. The skyline R32, 33, 34 I don't care, all are hot. If you can get it registered, and you're willing to deal with parts. Then this is the obvious choice.

Just my input

For it's cost and in comparison to other cars in it's class at the time, it was quite a value.  Particularly in the handling department.  The S13 Chassis, particularly when the DOHC version of the motor came out in 1991 was pretty good.  By comparison, a 1992/1993 Acura Ingegra GS-R put out 160 HP vs the 240's 155.  Not a big difference.  Though, my 1991 240sx ran 15.5's with virtually no mods and my close friend's 1992 Integra GS-R ran 16.0 in the next lane over.  This was the case over and over.  Admittedly, mine was on the fast side compared to other 240's, but my stock 1998 240 that I owned ran a 16.0 in a quarter mile with nearly 200 pounds more than the older one I had owned (I will say Nissan should have tried to be more competetive in the HP arena with the S14 Chassis though).  Most people tend to share your opinion of the powertrain simply because the SR20DET is avbailable for this car in other countries.  The Chassis is great, and coupled with more power, it certainly brings this car to life.  I installed a Turbo kit on the KA motor in the 98 240 and it was an exceptional car even with only 6.5 psi of boost.  The potential of these cars is making it a jem for tuners now.  Sadly, it was largely ignored when I bought both of mine as people chose cars like a trend rather than for it's merits.  Even sadder is that the 240 has become trendy and so people are scooping them up without knowing what they are truly getting.

The problem with any Honda/Acura is that they simply don't have any torque to back up their HP.  They are an excellent choice if you are looking for a daily driver with some pep but certainly not a replacement for a WRX.  As with the RX-8 the S2000's power is all in the higher RPM range.  As for the Skyline they are tough to be had and the only one I would truly be interested in would be the GT-R.

The GTO is far far too large a car... I've actually driven one because my father owns one... the engine sounds nice but that's about it... quite possibly one of the fugliest cars on the road IMO, and it handles like a boat (probably because it is one).

what year tho? my 05 handles very well.. and will crush 95% of whats out there once the road straightens out... and its still stock smile.gif
