As of now, there are no subs in the car, but eventually (when I can afford them) I will put subs in.

I listen to all kinds of music.  Anything ranging from Classical (Beethoven) to Rap.

if you are going to go with coaxial speakers i would recommend a 3-way or even a 4-way. this will increase the frequency range the speakers can play.

do you have an aftermarket head unit?

what kind of car do you have?
did you ever find out what size your speakers were?

I have Alpine type-S 3 way 6X9",Alpine Type-S 6.5", and Rockford 3" 2 ways in my jeep grand Cherokee and i couldn't be happier. I suggest Alpine all the way and since there a big brand it shouldn't be a problem finding them on amazon. So if u tell me what kind of car u have then i can tell u which alpines would fit and what kind u should get.

Yeah I have an aftermarket deck, but I have no idea what model/whatever it is.

It says Questar on the front, if that is any help.  It's a piece of crap.

But I ordered those speakers I linked to a few posts back.

it is actually very hard to tell what size speakers you have until you actually look at them. i thought i had 5.5" speakers but i really had 6" speakers. so you have to get in there and look.

EDIT: crutchfield was wrong on my size speakers. so was all the other sites that told you what size. they all said 5.5"

Your speakers are only as good as your head unit.  So I say it doesn't matter what kind you get until you replace your POS headunit.

What's a good head unit then?

Any recommendations.  I want one that can do CD and Radio basically, I plan on wiring up my xbox to it, so I don't know if I need MP3 or not.

i would have to say JVC is the best headunit for the price. unless you have some extra cash to get an Eclipse.

Price ranges for both?  Any good models in particular for both JVC and Eclipse.  I kind of like Kenwood, are they any good?

Eclipse CD5405 < Any good?

any eclipse is good, IMO.

kenwoods are decent. never owned/used one though.
JVC, eclipse, panasonic<<good

word of advice: a headunit will definately help but to get full potential out of your after-market speakers an amp will help tremendously.

personally id go for pioneer on a budget i picked up mine a while back for cheap, so im sure you can find one that'll do what you want and match the speakers you got. YOu don't need the best out there unless u plan on spending more money on a system. other wise id stick with a midrange pioneer with your type s speakers. You could also go with alpine for the deck aswell but you would need to spend a little more. blink.gif

Never been a fan of the Pioneer decks.  The sound just seems to come out flat (and that was even with a decent four channel amp that was properly tweaked).    If you are on a budget JVC would be my pick if you want to invest a little and go for quality then Clarion Pro Audio and Eclipse would be my picks.  Even from the deck my old DX-725 Clarion Pro Audio deck has been the best sounding deck that I have ever owned.  My current Alpine is decent but I certainly wouldn't build a soundsystem around it.

To the genius who posted the Jackhammer, that's a subwoofer, not a speaker.
