Well I'm planning on purchasing a car once I get to university. I thought about what one that market and noticed that everything sux! I then decided that I want to build a skyline, yes you heard me. I want to buy a body, build an engine and go from there because I figure I want a new car and this will be a lot of fun. What do you guys think, is it a good idea and are skylines legal in souther Ontario (Canada)? What would something like this cost me and keep in mind it will be heavily tuned.

Edit: My parents are giving me 10-15 g's and I can pay the rest.

Its a right-hand drive car, wouldn't that require special insurance? Anyways, if you want to build one thats up to you. It would probably be cheaper just to import one, its not like your going to find R34 Skyline parts laying around. Even if you did it would end up costing way more than the car itself.

Even in Canada you can't legally import and register an R-34 Skyline.  The deal is that anything less than 15 years old is subject to very rigorous standards, over 15 years and it is a different story.  Hence why you see a number of R32s up there but not many R-33s or R-34s.  As mentioned by the previous post, finding an R34 in any condition would be difficult, but to find a body in great shape that doesn't run would be a real challenge.  By the time you got everything invested and done you would still be looking at a 25-30K car (assuming you do the work yourself) that you probably couldn't register for another couple of years.  That would also be just the cost of getting it up and running with stock specs.  If I lived in Canada I would just buy an R32 GTR and be done with it.  You could easily get one in great shape for the kind of budget you are considering.

I don’t think so. I had a RHD Jeep for awhile. It wasn’t a mail Jeep or any thing, just an every day normal RHD Wrangler (you can order them from any Jeep dealer). No special insurance was needed. I picked it up for a steal. Lifted it and took it out on the trails. It got lots of looks from other Jeepers thats for sure.

All though, a Jeep isn’t a Skyline either. Insurance is going to be high regardless. Its a "sports car" and its imported. Parts are hard to find if he wrecks it and the insurance company has to pay any thing, they arnt going to like it.

Yeah, it's not the RHD that is really an issue it's more the safety, emissions, ect. that come into play.  At least those are the issues that kill the skyline in the US.

Oh quit being a negative nelly. I have a friend whom needs to replace the valves on his RB in his 240SX and they only cost like 2 grand. That's not that much really.

Canada's emissions laws are way more slack than in the US, to my knowledge emission standards don't come into play at with skylines. As for prices, it would cost you about $18,000 to buy a GTR from an import company and about $12,000 to buy a GTS from an import company. You can buy them straight from the auction if you want to though, I have a friend who payed closer to $8,000 for a GTS buying it herself. It's a good way to save some money but the reason that most people go through the import company's is because there is less risk of recieving a damaged vehicle. I hope this helps.

Yeah I recognize that and that is one of the reasons why the Skyline is much more common in Canada than they are here.  I was just pointing out the reasons why they are so difficult to legalize here in the US.
