Someone gave it to me.  tongue.gif And i'll find out tomorrow if i can register it.

I don’t see why you won’t be able to. Its old enough, so it should comply with emission and crash rating laws. If it wasn’t allowed to be on the street to start with, they would have never let it out of customs. Unless it was a show / race car, and it doesn’t look like one.

I was making fun of him because I remember a thread from a while back where someone wanted a car and he kept saying to get a BMW because of their uber fine engineering and theyre way better than anything.

Any thing from Germany has ‘uber fine engineering’. They such tighter tolerances than any one else when it comes to building automobiles. And that holds true to pretty much any thing German made. Ever wonder why a German made knife set costs over $1,200? B/c it’s the BEST!

Actually a lot of Skylines end up in the US as track only cars.

Certain VWs are still made @ the Karmann(SP?) plant in Germany. If you consider those reliable, well I dont know what to say.

Vehicle import laws in Canada are very lax for any vehicle 15 years or older.  Basically just needs a federal vehicle inspection, and a provincial vehicle inspection, before it can be registered and licensed.  The federal inspection is very simple and basically just confirms vin with supplied documentation.  The provincial inspection varies between provinces but here in BC, we give a thorough check over of all mechanical aspects of the car.  If all the brakes/tires/steering/exhaust etc are safe, your good to go.  Typically on imported vehicles, the only part that can be a bit sticky is if the windsheild glass isnt marked AS1, AS2 or AS3 and the headlights/tailights have to be marked DOT.  If everything is in order, you should be able to register it.  I have personally inspected and passed many older skylines (and I am picky).  Good luck.  My only concern would be the fact that someone gave you that car, which would kinda indicate there was an issue with licensing.

Okay, so it’s a real Skyline. How the hell did you get it into the country? Canada allows you to import RHD cars?

The deal is that if it's over 15 years old then it is legal in Canada so R32 GTRs aren't all that uncommon up there (lucky bastards).

My thoughts exactly.

I'd hardly call a Twin-Turbo straight 6 that pushes over 300HP (yes, this is all stock for an R32 GTR) a ricer burner.  This car can easily compete with most German Imports and I agree with Rylinkus about german imports.  There are some fine german import cars out there but BMW and VW are both horribly overrated.  My co-worker had a brand new 2005 Passat and the electrical system had a major malfunction within the first year and had to be repaired.  Good thing the car was still under warranty.  I'm sorry but if I spend $30K on a car it damn well better go 4-5 years before it has any major issues.

Reliability aside a BMW can be an amazing car to drive. Though, Im sure a skyline would be a blast to drive as well.

Oh I would. Just b/c its got turbos dose not disqualify it as a rice burner, just an over rated ricer burner. And I bet that inline six is pretty guiltless with out the help of its turbos. I’m more of a supercharger fan my self, instant power and no lag.

Hell, my Jeep’s little V8 is naturally aspirated and is pushing out all most a little shy of 300HP. With a new exhaust, intake and a ported throttle body, it would be around 300HP. My new Dodge is pushing out 305HP and 555 foot pounds of torque from the STOCK engine, and it only has one turbo  tongue.gif . New exhaust, intake, bigger intercooler, and a simple tuner, this truck would tear up a ricer in the 1/4mile.

A Dodge what? Some thing pushing that much HP must have the SRT-8 package. Not enough HP for the Viper, so I’m going to guess a Charger or a 300C?

No, but twin turbos coupled with an inline six is hardly comparable to a honda civic with a body kit and fart cannon exhaust (the true definition of a ricer).  Then again let's face it there are also domestic "ricers" out there.  Dodge Neon or Pontiac Sunfire, anyone?    Funny you should mention that about the Skyline, there was a guy in my area with a lightly modded R32 GT-R who took it up to a hot rod show and laid waste to a bunch of 400-500HP Hotrods.  The owners of said 400-500HP Hotrods thought the same thing until after he beat them.  The only thing that beat it at the show were the hot rods that had been modded so much that they were no longer street legal.  That and I would love to see your Jeep and Dodge pickup keep up with the GT-R on a track with curves.   BTW just out of curiosity how would you rate a Dodge Stealth versus a Mitsubishi 3000GT in a race?

The only reason the Skyline beat American Mussel is b/c its got all wheel drive, where as the hotrods probably only have rear wheel drive. The Skyline would humiliate my Dodge or Jeep on a track with curves, ¼ mile would be different.

And the Dodge Stealth and Mitsubishi 3000GT are the same damn thing with different badges. Wife and I had a 3000GT for awhile. It was all right, but didn’t thrill me. Traded it in for a Lexus that didn’t three me either (as an LS400). But you don’t wanta know what happened to that poor car…
