New Hard Drive Locking Problem

Very odd.  I've modded about 15 boxes and have never come across this until very recently.  I have two drives here than I basically can't do anything with.

When I lock the drive, it seems to enable security, but not actually lock the drive.  When I try to lock it again, HDM tells me, well, security's enabled, disable that, then try relocking the drive..

I've tried every combination of things I can think of, and still have these two drives..

Can't a hacked BIOS run the xbox without a locked drive?

My eeprom's flashed with an x2 bios, and it still bitches about error 6..

Hmm indeed

Just curious as to what version of xbox you are using.  I have had this happen a couple of times with 1.6's using Krayzies NDURE installer.  Try using Slayers on the original drive to get the eeprom.  Put that eeprom.bin file into your eeprom folder of xboxhdm and then use step 3 to lock the drive (lockhd -a).

Ok used configure magic to get the locking password and it gave the same one I already had. Anyone got any ideas?

I always use the HDM, and I have all my eeprom's saved to a cd.  They work with some drives, but just not these two.  Curious indeed.

The only time I've ever had problems was when I tried to manually enter the HDD password.  EEProm is much better.

Hang on, are you trying to use the HD Password generated with the stock HD to put in a new HD?  That'll never work.

You mean v1.6.  You cannot have the 5838 kernel on a 1.0.

can you get any other HDD to work with your setup (xboxHDM) ?

That's what's got me all messed up is that every program I use reports the epprom back as a ver. 1, but the kernal is telling me it's a 1.6  wtf!

I've used configmagic, liveinfo beta3, and xboxhdm. The first two report it as a 1.0 epprom and all three give me the same locking password that make the box kick back an error 6

*******  CONFIGMAGIC INFORMATION FILE  *******

XBOX VERSION =       V1.0
KERNEL VERSION:    1.0.5838.1
XBOX RAM =       64 MBYTES

XBOX MAC ADDRESS =    00-50-F2-B2-A8-84

XBOX VIDEO MODE =    NTSC
XBOX XBE REGION =    01
XBOX HDD KEY =       218EC2A408FC9CA6FBD80F9DADE3B773
XBOX CONFOUNDER =    11FB92D387C2C3AB

XBOX HDD MODEL =    ST310211A
XBOX HDD SERIAL =    5DB2EEYR

XBOX HDD PASSWORD =    A27FDB2D6FE8757937D3C12E7648BB6598B963FE

XBOX DVD MODEL =    THOMSON-DVD

this is what configuremagic kicks back to me after making a backup.

OK it is know that configmagic does not work on a 1.6
you have to use configmagic final1.6
that may or may not be it
also edit out your XBOX SERIAL NUMBER and  XBOX ONLINE KEY

try doing a evox backup
and look at eeprom.txt for the XBOX HDD KEY and see if it's the same as the one from configmagic

the XBOX HDD KEY is the only info from the eeprom that is used to lock a HDD

you may want to try to unlock this HDD with that password and see if it will unlock using the DOS tools
but don't disable locking

don't think i will

should I uninstall the ude2 exploit and return the drive to factory and then remod it?

thats one way, use NDURE if you do
it is easyer to just edit the gamesave
and use xbedump to sign configmagic (less risk also)
but go with what you think is easy for you...
