I guess I just don't believe in skimping when it comes to car audio.  The rest you may be stuck with but I would definitely DITCH THE SONY, Sony has terrible car audio products (ie fall apart shortly after the warranty expires).  If you are on that kind of a budget I would look into a JVC. As far as the amp and subs go, it really depends.  If you just want blaring bass that only lasts a year or two, then you will be fine.  If you actually prefer quality and accuracy or want something that will last for 4-5 years or more, then don't even think about it.  The infinity speakers aren't a bad choice though.

ok i will ditch the sony i found a jvc that will fit in the honda and has the exact same price and what other sub/amp would you recommend. I read that bandpass subs are good for deep sound, but are all pricey with the amp i guess i will have to stick with the visonik package...

Sony makes horrible disc drive product period. I have never seen a Sony DVD player last more than a year, and same goes for the car products (both HU and subs).

Clarion is another budget company (or at least used to be) with decent bang for the buck. I know they recently got into "competition" equipment so I'm not sure if they still have the cheaper stuff anymore. I guess look around.

Clarion does still have regular stuff.  They have a regular deck under $90 at that site I listed.  I can't speak for it though since I am only familiar with the Pro Audio decks (which are outstanding BTW).  @ the original post, I personally don't care for bandpass enclosures.  You do get maximum thump but your sound quality suffers something terrible.  So if all you want to do is shake the car and the neighborhood then a bandpass is what you are looking for, if you actually want good quality and accuracy then a sealed box is what you are looking for.  A ported box is a comprimise between the two.  Keep in mind that bandpass and ported enclosures typically will require more airspace if you do it right.  As far as subs go, I am really picky.  JL Audio is all I will touch for subs at this point.  I guess it's just me but the other subs distort WAY to easily and produce a sort of annoying buzz that gives me a headache.  A JL Audio Amp is also what I would recommend.  Keep in mind though that they are going to be spendy.  BTW which type(s) of music do you listen to.  That is important to keep in mind as that can affect what size of the sub you get.

JVC is one a best that I've seen last a good 5 yrs and still go strong.

Sub wise, I have Kicker Solo barics s12ds(Not the square).  I got them about 6 years ago and they are still going strong.

Lastly, in my opinion, amps are the heart of a system.  If you have a bad amp and excellent speakers, you system is going to sound like shit.  Well at least in my experience with car audio.  I haven't search for amps in a while because I haven't had the need.  I have a sound stream amp pushing two solo barics for a couples years now with not a problem.

Solo barics are great subs but quite pricey and they need quite a bit of power.  Soundstream amps aren't bad.

Infinity isn't bad but once again you haven't told us what you are looking for.  Some people would be content as hell with a radioshack subwoofer, I sure as hell wouldn't but that is a matter of preference.

if you take a look on pricegrabber.com you can usually find some good deals on car audio, i got my cd player (Pioneer def-770mp premier) for around 175 and a week later went into circuit city and saw it for 350.

my personal preference is pioneer for the head unit, and mtx/alpine for everything else

The JL Audio W1 subs will do a hell of a job with very little power.  My recommendations are for JL Audio subs and amps.  The amps can be pretty damn expensive though.  Once again though, you NEED to let us know what it is that you are looking for (ie just loud blaring bass, or are you interested in quality and accuracy).  Also what types of music do you listen to?  The reason why I ask is because that can affect the size of the sub that would best suit you.  If you just listen to rap/hip-hop/techno then you will want a larger sub (12" or larger), if you have a wider range in musical tastes then a 10" sub is your best bet.  Anyways, assuming that you have as much of a hatred for distortion as I do, then the JL Audio W1 subs are what you should look at.  Not sure if you want 1 or 2 subs.  Here is a link to detailed specs on the W1:

If you can afford a JL Audio Amp, then I strongly suggest it.  If you are on a tighter budget then a coustic or MTX amp will do.

boxes are sold seperately for the most part, but if you have some basic woodworking skills you can easily slap one together yourself for cheaper.

as much as i hate them, a bandpass enclosure might be better for you.. a 12" sub in a bandpass will usually be louder than 2 12" subs in a sealed box. although, building a bandpass can be a bit tricky (there are several equations involved) so you might be better off just buying one.

one important question that i have yet to see answered.. are you looking for in-car-enjoyment, or do you want our neighbors to know when you're almost home?
