ok forget what everyone else said blah blah blah u dont need and aftermarket radio system to get some amps and woofers i know this what i do for a living

1) u need some sort of hi/lo pac, boss, q-power dosent have to be big name brand go to ur local radio shop place cost bout $15-$20

2)An amp kit around $15-$20 8 gauge wiring good fro small wattage or bump up tp 4 gauge around $20-$40 both come with everything u need other than tools to hook it up

3)if u want some bump to where its sound good inside all u need is a lil 10'' woofer ie a kicker, punch, q-power, whatever if u want to sound good outside like down the block and they hear u coming 2 12'' or some 2 10'' kicker solobarics i love them small but mighty powerful for that u will need a good 800+ watt amp or a cheap 2000 watt amp

4)amps for a single 10 all u need is like 100 watts a good amp if u buy a cheap 100 watt amp u aint doing anything for 2 12 a good 400+ watt amp

no mather what other people tell u u dont need some JL audio dont get me wrong they kickass but to expensive for what a new 13 1/5 w7 and jl 500 u can get all ur car done with some ok brand stuff

ok forget what ................blah blah blah....................... more blah....

Nobody told him he had to get an aftermarket HU for bass, I mentioned LOCs already, and nobody told him he had to get a fuckin w7 (I recomended a w0... those you can catch for well under 100 bucks).
No shit factory stereos look better in new cars. Everyones aware of that. But pick a car before 98 and generally it doesn't make a difference because the designs are so square. Hence why I have chosen to keep my stock stereo for the time being.
What things could we possibly not think you could do? There's fuckin' 12, 13, 14yr olds in the XB modding threads hacking xboxes, wiring 'em, painting 'em, converting 'em.... ur not special. Get over urself  rolleyes.gif

Oh and Junior... stay away from the lambo doors and paint... it's a waste of money that you will regret 4 or even 2 yrs from now when you have a little more money to buy a different car. You'll think to urself "if only I hadn't spent that 5 grand on all that shit, I would have been able to get the ___(insert car, package, etc. here)____" among other things. Unless, like jester said, there's a problem with the current paint job, then just leave it.

wow, sage advice almost three weeks later...

if you were an installer, you would know that there are about a hundred advantages to swapping out that old p.o.s. headunit (old talon rememeber?) and going with a new unit. not saying that he has to spend a million dollars on it... a couple hundred bucks would get him a decent panasonic (or similar brand) head unit with aux input and sub control.. not to mention a cleaner signal down the pre-outs, and better amplifier for the interior speakers.

lemme guess, you're a best buy installer with <2 months under your belt?
edit: must be best buy.. cuz i know most of those guys are too dumb to read.. take a look at the line in his first post..

Tell me about it.  Just put an Alpine HU in my Saturn to replace the POS stock deck that was in it.  The guy who made that post is also missing a few other things.  1. The slightest scratch on a disc is gonna make a stock deck skip like crazy.  Aftermarket decks have MUCH stronger lasers and are far more practical for regular use.  2. Every stock car CD Player I have used (including the one in my Saturn) puts scratches on CDs.  I don't know if it's the penny pinching load mechanisms that they use or what but they definitely aren't as easy on discs as the aftermarket decks.  3.  They are MUCH easier to make additions to if you decide to add something later down the road, unlike stock decks where you have to go through all of the BS mentioned above just to add a few things to it nor is it EVER going to sound as good as an aftermarket unit.  As for factory stereos looking better?   That really depends on the installer.  If you go to BB, CC or any of the other mentally challanged installers, then he is correct that the stock deck will look better.  On the other hand if you go to someone who specializes in car audio installs and really knows what they are doing, you can get it to look just as good (if not better) than the original.  When I got my Alpine put in, I took it to the installer who I have trusted all of these years.  The install was completely natural and I gained a little bit of storage space now that the oversized stock deck is gone.

It's one thing to look good, it's another to match. An install can look as clean as you want it, but it doesn't mean it matches the rest of the dash. That's where the problem comes in with the newer cars because they like to make everything integrated into one spot and be flush. But once you want to replace the stereo, it'll no longer match the rest of that dash. Try looking up a pic of the newer Acura dashes. There's no way to match that with an aftermarket stereo (without some serious customization, lol). So it's all in what ur lookin' for and willing to sacrifice.

Haha... but unfortunately any function or performance worth it to me is a lil too pricey for me at the moment, lol. Especially with my setup  dry.gif

Understandable, it isn't cheap.  Having those stock speakers and no subs is starting to get to me though.  If I can figure out a way to make subs sound decent in a trunk (yeah, I know dynamat, ect.) but it's never going to sound as good as the W0s that I had sitting in the hatch of my RX-7.  See unlike some, I prefer the sound to the distorted rattle and shaking of the car.  Maybe one of the reasons why I am so picky about my subs. wink.gif

Luckily for me, nothing on my car itself rattles (as it's a fairly new car), but the lower passenger side speaker rattles which gets annoying sometimes, but you only notice it when the volume is low enough, haha. I won't bother replacing anything until I can replace everything.
And there's other choices other than Dynamat... Whether or not they're better than Dynamat is debatable. I've never gotten a straight, unbiased answer from anyone. Dynamat is just so expensive that it doesn't even seem worth it to me.

Yeah, I know I was just using Dynamat as a general example.  The Saturn has quite a few rattles but I guess that is pretty common with even the newer cars.  Hell even when my parents bought their brand new Civic LX back in 2001 it still had a couple of rattles, road noise, so I'm not too concerned about it.  That is what the stereo is for.  To drown out such things.  I did look in my Saturn and saw that the rear speakers were firing upwards into the back of the car so it might be possible to get some subs to do the same without having it just sound like my trunk has a bad case of the winds and rattles all of the time.  As mentioned above, I prefer to hear my bass, not just feel it.

If you have a folding arm rest in the back, you could mount a sub in the ski pass. Or take out the rear speakers all together and use those as ports to the trunk. You should be much happier with the sound once you've done that.
