Saturn Sc2?
« on: March 06, 2006, 04:12:00 AM »

Hey, still looking around for a relatively Fuel Efficient vehicle that isn't too spendy.  I found a '94 Saturn SC2 in my area for $3K, it also only has 65K miles.  Last time I checked, Saturns were decent cars and they were made by GM.  Fuel Economy.gov reports the SC model at between 25-29MPG in the city and 34-37MPG on the highway, which is well within acceptable limits for me.  I don't know if there is any difference in the SC2 over the SC.  The downside is that it is red but if it is a decent car and well maintained, I could easily deal with it.

Too bad.    I'll answer your question anyways.

The SC2's are sweet cars.  The SC1's are underpowered, underoptioned, but get 38-40 mph if you drive right.

Same car, just DOHC>SOHC and some options.

I've got a 2000 SC1.  Had a 94 SC2.  Got the DOHC engine swap coming this summer.

It's still good to know.  Not like Saturns are rare, so I will definitely keep an eye out for one in my search.  I really don't want this vehicle to be an HP monster or anything.  Just looking for something that gets pretty good gas mileage and won't fall apart on the freeway.

Hey, I just found a '97 SC2 for $3700 obo.  If the mileage isn't too bad and I can talk them down a bit then it should be quite a decent buy.

I can't believe my rotten fucking luck.  The SOB has only been listed for 3 days and it is already sold.  WTF?  These cars don't last long on the market.   mad.gif

I just hope that the Rex holds out until then.  That is my concern.

if all you want is good mileage, why not find a ~92 geo metro? as much as i may poke fun at them, the 3 bangers get damn near 50 mpg.. driving 90% highway miles, i averaged 57mpg on one tank (first full tank after a thurough tune-up) that number remained pretty consistent for quite a while. hell, even near the end of it's life i was still getting well above 40

As funny as that may seem, I owned a Chevy Sprint Turbo.
It's the most fun of ANY car Ive ever owned. I've had several friends say it's the most amusing car theyve ever driven. And the guy I gave the car to after the rust got real bad has said the same. I can't quite explain it. Don't think 70 hp, 1.0L I3. Think 70 hp Go Kart. Realize my Camaro outweighs it 2 to 1. And that it has a turning radius that's absolutely absurd. To explain it a better way, I could have cryed the day it went away. And I currently have enough money to buy one should I find one withint 700 or less miles from me, simply waiting.

And for more useless Sprint facts.
16.1 1/4 mile
40ish MPG
Really cool turbo light that lights up on the dash when you hit positive boost
The engine can take more then twice the boost the turbo can produce
The engines run FOREVER. Half the guys on the super tiny Sprint forum I found had 300K miles on their totally untouched original motor....

EDIT: Simplest Explanation possible. I'd trade my Camaro with every featureI wanted in it for a completely mint Chevy Sprint turbo without even taking a second to pause and think about it. On my list of cars I want Ferrari F50 sits @ #1 and a MINT Chevy Sprint Turbo is #2.

i know.. isn't that thing just a rebadged suzuki swift turbo? that's where the metro came from.. the sprint dropped the turbo and evolved into the metro, and suzuki made them all... personally i'd rather have the suzuki version, i tend to not like chevy and i wouldn't want their "personal touches" on it.

Chevy Sprint / Pontiac Firefly / Suzuki Forsa
Same car
Mine was beat when I bought it. (I bought it from a salvage yard for 150 bucks)
There's nothing I've ever driven that put as big a smile on my face. I can't really explain it other then it did. It's a wonderful little car and I wish they made then new today as Id most definately own one. The N/A version had 54 Hp....  wink.gif
