Thorin - i'm guessing you're using "electrolytic" capacitors as you say they are polarised

If they are electrolytic caps then you can still use them they just need to be fitted the correct way round .

There should be a different color strip running down one side of the capacitor - this should have a "0" or a "-" sign on it - thats the leg of the capacitor that needs to go to "ground" or "negative"

Another way to tell the polarity is that one leg should be longer than the other - the longest leg is "positive"

pins 1 + 4 on the max 232 chip are "positive" and 3 + 5 are "negative"

hope this helps

this is deleting the password in the securitiy area modul (SA).

The SA is a part of the Firmware.

Code-Runner your design looks great, much better than the one I threw together on protoboard. I know I offered for $15 before, but the fact that the connectors are a female dog to get, Im gonna have to throw it out there that I can do $15 shipped to USA or Canada for a board but no connectors, or $20 with connectors. At least until Code-Runner comes out with his and kicks my unlocker's ass. S'all good. Also, if you ever get bored/tired/whatever and need someone to assemble those boards, Im good at that too smile.gif

Out of pure curiosity I have built this programmer and tried it out smile.gif

It worked perfectly.
I used an old ibm thinkpad running windows 98 for the hyperterminal and a very old 486 pc with only the mobo and power supply fitted for the hard disk power supply.
This way I would not harm my pc if something went amiss.

Nice one cyd0g

Hey guys sorry to dig this thing up.

Ive built this damn board, and everything checks out. Ive checked everythig about a million times, and the board SHOULD WORK!!! but its not!

Im starting to think the IC im using is ...not what was on the package when i bought it.

On the package it did SAY :+5v powered dual RS-232 IC Part number #Max232CPE Which is fine and dandy and everything, however on the actual IC its written : ST232CN

Ive checked the data sheets from both:
ST232CN
Max232

they both seem the same, however im not getting absolutely any output on they hyperterminal window. After i connect power to the HD...the screen remains blank...nothing....

any input guys?
