I have 3 little question before i start this project (i want to be shure not to screw up anything):

1 - I think there is an error on the picture (correct me if im wrong) i think it supposed to be GRND instead of -5v, or does this 'device' need 10v to work (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif) ??

2 - Also, do u think its ok to take the +5v power from a usb port?

3 - I checked at www.abra-electronics.com to see if they have those max232 chip (this store is at 10min from my home) and it gave me 5 results:

            MAX232ACPE    ----  +5V HighSpeed dual RS232 T/R 16 Pins
            MAX232CPE     ----  +5V dual RS232 trans/receiver 16 Pins
            MAX232EPE     ----   +5V dual RS232 trans/rcvr 40°C to +85°C 16 Pins
            MAX232CWE*   ----   5V dual RS232 trans/rcvr 16 Pins
            MAX233CPP     ----   MAX232 no external components required 20 Pins

Can anyone tell me wich one is the best for this project??

Thx....

1. there is no error in the picture, many people allready build the adapter with the schematic

in used in the tutorial - and it work. if it would not work i could not have made the screenshots and

unlock the drive  tongue.gif

2. You can take the 5v from any device you want, you could also connect some batterys if you want...

3. Take a MAX232  with 16 pins, doesn´t matter with one - i took the MAX232N from Texas Instruments

Thx for the fast reply cyd0g  biggrin.gif

So u mean it's working on 10v (difference between +5v and -5v  = to 10v) and if so, where did you get this -5v from, i dont think my pc diserve it?

hello,

it´s 5V , not 10V

i think i made a mistake on the picture, it should be +5v   and -0v   smile.gif

look @ the russian schematic, that is 100 % correct.

sorry for this confusion  rolleyes.gif

P.S.  I grabbed this picture from another site a while back but I can't remember where, sorry.

Will this type of capacitor suffice Cap MKT 0.1 uF 100 VDC ?

Is there an easy way to read the circuit diag as i dont really understand it.

Thanks Speckles

I have a dead xbox and a modded xbox (with exicuter v.3, I think).

I need to get the savegame data off of the dead 'box's HD.

If I build your nifty device and unlock the hard drive:

1: does the HD stay unlocked?

2:will I now be able to hook the unlocked drive to my computer or modded box to copy the save game data?

@Logicdustbin
youll be fine putting it in the modded box, but youl need an evox cd to have a ftp server on the box, because the retail dash doesnt support it.

cheers for the tut!
endlich ma billig ne ace unlocken. fehlt nur noch die WD variante und wir sind durch. weiss man ob die commands auch für andere seagates gehen?

hello :-)

1. your drive will be unlocked

2. you can put the (now unlocked)drive in your  modded xbox and copy your savegames

via FTP to your computer. Plug in the original HDD to the modded xbox and

transfer the copied savegames from the PC to your other harddisk

If you want I can build you a board for about $15 shipped. The schematic is really simple, google 'how to read schematics' if you want to learn how by yerself.
