Nissian Skylines Banned In North America?

The stuff that I said is true (I think)...   They are OK to own for legal (on track) drift racing. And the power/speed limiter thing is true ,cuz now you can do the same with the new BMW M5 and get 605bhp and 210mph out of the engine! ....I know it sounds crazy ,but it has already been done by a german tuning company called Hamann...

The skyline was banned after some guy took the speed/power limiter of and put in his own. After he done that he got over 1000bhp out of the engine without blowing it up. (it was banned cuz everyone started doing that).

Sorry, I don't buy it.  The skyline was banned for the other reasons listed above.

And I thought that Nissan made (and make) their cars at least at a 4 star safety rating ,...don't they?

In the US.....

Im sorry, no car company is taking a 1000hp engine and detuning it to 400hp. thats just stupid and bad business. Why waste the better parts, R&D time, and all that? If you caould make a 1000hp engine youd bve selling a 1000hp car.

Yeah ,but then it wouldn't be road legal...

..And anyways you have to use aftermarket stuff to get that amount of bhp.

I can produce 1000bhp on my car if I invest some money. But none of that involves removing a "power limiter". And the same holds true for the Skyline. While I will concede that you could indeed make a 1000bhp Skyline, thats not the asme as removing some imaginary part and gaining that.

i will eat my hat if someone here can provide proof of getting 1000hp out of a skyline motor (rb26dett or rb25det or rb25de) by removing anything. the only way you're getting the power that high is by doing some massive turbo swaps along with a LOT of supporting mods. we're talking about tearing the engine completely down and replacing every part with forged pieces built to handle the extra strain.

how bout we take a look at how people are getting that power... shall we?

here's one.. click here for cardomain page

ENGINE

JUN 87mm forged pistons (x6)
JUN connecting rods (x6)
JUN 2.8L stoker counter balanced crankshaft
TRUST 10 litre enlarged sump
ATI Crank Pulley
HKS high capacity oil pump
JUN oil sump baffle plates
ARP strengthened connecting rod bolts
TOMEI strengthened main crankshaft bolts
NISMO N1 water pump

HEAD

JUN 288/288 Lift 11.35 camshaft
Custom porting and polishing of cylinder head
HKS Drag metal head gasket 1.2 mm
OS giken cam pulley (x2)
JUN valve guides (x24)
JUN GT surge tank (intake plenum)
HKS intake gaskets (x3)
JUN oversized intake valves (x12)
Tomei strengthened head studs (x14)
JUN tappet shims (x24)
JUN titanium valve retainers (x24)
Nissan Infinity 90mm throttle body assembly

TURBO

Garrett GT42 BB upgrade
Greddy Header Manifold
Greddy Type C wastegate
APEXi DRAG Intercooler

FUEL SYSTEM

SX Performance 1000HP fuel pumps (x2)
Custom 1600 c c injectors (x6)
RCI 30 litre fuel cell, with competition spec re-breather system
SX 6.0 bar high pressure fuel regulator

ENGINE MANAGEMENT

F Con V PRO Enginemanagement by Speed D PROSHOP
Missfiring Option Operated
Veilside Traction Control
Manual Split Torque Controller

DRIVETRAIN

HKS 6 speed gearbox with upgraded spline input shaft for Daily driven
GREX 6 Speed Sequential Gearbox for Drag racing
OS Giken triple plates
ATS rear 2.0 way high-lock rate Drag/SPL LSD
Custom solid engine mount system
HKS drive shafts, front (x2) and rear (x2)
Modified hi-torque transfer case system
Nismo N1 drive train mounts

A little more complex than simply removing some shit huh? if you would like me to pull more examples i can, as there are plenty of built skylines out there.. but i really don't think it's neccessary. unless of course you'd like to provide some proof to your retarded theory...  wink.gif

i'll be right here waiting ..  pop.gif

*caugh*Bugatti*caugh*
...Street legal at 1000hp the last I heard. Street legal has nothing to do with power. It's a combination of safety (usually relative to power, yes, but not directly related) and emissions. That's it.

Every once and a while a car manufacturer gets away with a few things though like Lotus with their Elise... something to do with the front-end. And that's why you won't see any other Lotus sold in the US unless they get rid of the Elise (they have some kind of exemption... anyone know the specifics?). But they kind of get away with it becuase the Elise isn't "high" powered. But cars like the TVR will never come to the US because it's rediculously fast and doesn't have a properly equipped front-end.

EDIT: Oh, and WRXs and Evos are hideous IMO.

1 there is nothing sexier then hearing a lancer evo VIII downshift and hear that turbo kick
2 Seeing an sti hit a yump (what they call a jump in rally) and peel into a hairpin at 50 will give any straight man a boner

I dont think the bougatti is street legal, but its not because it has 1000hp, they made less than 20 of them so for it to be actually street legal in this country they need to have crash tests.

TVR's arent sold in this country because its a small british car company and dont have the money to throw it over here.

Lotus Elise isnt extravogent or anything, im sure it had to pass crash and emmisions testing to be sold as a street legal car.

No, the TVR can't be sold here because of safety issues. Money has nothing to do with it.

And yes, the Elise went through crash tests, but they got away with something on the front end (can't remember the specifics) because of something to do with it being the only car they sell here. That's the reason they aren't binging over their most recent car because it would take away their exemption. Sell the new car, no more Elise. But again, I don't know the specifics of it all.

And ur right about the Bugatti... it's not street legal... yet, lol. But honestly... who's gunna pull one of those over just because it's not street legal, haha. They're beutiful. Although some hate 'em.
They're supposed to be making 50 a year btw.

watch the episode of top gear for the bougatti, its an engineering project by VW to see if they could do it, they arent making 50 a year because it costs them 2mil for each one and they sell them for about 800k. And good luck insuring it  tongue.gif
