« on: September 08, 2005, 07:21:00 PM »

i just picked up a lawn mower that somebody threw in the garbage (the engine runs but it needs to b re wired)
but any way
i want to know how to make it faster (i want to achieve speeds of 40+ mph)
can i do this simply by taking the governer off and changing the pully ratio?
thanks for your help
(n btw i figured this was the best place to put this topic)

No you dont, you will surely be hurt in a major accident if you attempt these speeds.

1) They do have racing lawn mowers that get up to even higher speeds (I've seen 60+)
2) You will still get hurt, probably stupidity somewhere in the equation. Just do one thing for the sake of humanity...video tape it. I'd love to see a lawn mower wipe out going 40.

*update*

ok i had my friend and his sister come over today to help fix the lawnmower
so we got the new belt in place, we got the engine mouted and wired up (hopefully its wired right laugh.gif ), now the jackass that i took it from cut the gas line so it ended up being about a foot short so i just took the gas tank off of my go kart and put it on the front of the mower (temporary) untill i can get more fuel line
and the mower takes a 12 volt battery (the smaller one, not a full car battery) but i dont have it so tomorrow im going to use my dads car to jump start the mower to make sure its working
ill try to make a video once its up and running and then another one once i get it going 40 mph  biggrin.gif

well i would need to have a car battery in order to put it in the lawn mower so im just going to attach jumper cables to where the battery hook-ups are on the lawn mower and jump start it from a car to make sure it runs b4 i even go out to buy a new battery and fuel line
and i still need 2 put oil in it cuz the guy who had it b4 me drained it all out so yea ill probably put 10w30 in it
wish me luck  biggrin.gif

no he was just an idot
apparently what happened was the drive belt broke, and hes pretty much a retard so he though the whole thing was broken so he was gonna leave it out for garbage but to make it easier for the garbage men he apparently cut all of the wires to the engine and front headlights and he took the engine off/ fucked around with other little things so it needed alot of stuff to be done to it (the brakes still need a little fine tuning)
i should have the engine atleast started tomorrow (if the wiring is correct that is)

Hope you get it up and running. You should replace the spark plugs and wires also. Once you get it all running, replcae the stock lights with high power fog lights, then put a car battery in it and take out the small motorcycle battery, make sure you take the blade off and disconect that whole assembly, that usese probably most of the power.
