Music Off Xbox Hard Drive
« on: November 27, 2005, 01:37:00 PM »

I have a large collection of music on my xbox hard drive. I would like to transfer it all to my pc (im presuming its in mp3 format of xbox equivalent).

How would I be able to do this? I have tried hot swapping the drive to my pc but didn’t manage to get it to read the FAT-X file system.

Is the only way to do this to mod chip the xbox and create a ftp between my pc and the xbox? I am reluctant to chip the xbox because i use xbox live and i want to sell the xbox after getting my music off it.

Thanks.

As far as i know the only way is through a mod... chip or soft mod. I don't really know much about soft mods though. Also there are ways to mod that can essentially be 'turned off' for playing on XBLive or removed altogether, though again for a soft mod i wouldn't know and you are planing on selling the xbox anyway.

not personally but a friend got it and said he loved it. not quite sure how it works with the transfer but that is what you would need. it comes with a mic for karaoke(sp?) but if nothing else you could try the BST for one used or maybe just buy one and sell it with the XBOX.

Darkmatter, have you tried the xbox music mixer yet? Because everything I read says just PC to XBOX, and not XBOX to PC, I wanna be sure you can get all music off. I'm in the same boat, I'm trying to look for a way to get my music off my xbox.

I don't know how you got all the music on your XBOX if you haven't connected it to a computer, but just set up your XBOX for networking directly to a PC and then use ftp to copy things back and forth.

^he doesn't have a chip in it.

try this:
>> Soundtrack Editor
Now you can edit XBOX Soundtrack from your PC.
Add/Remove/Rename soundtrack and music track with this program.
If you want to listen to the MP3s in the XBOX, change the MP3 to WMA format using converting program like 'Advanced WMA Workshop'.
Then add the converted WMA to your XBOX using 'Add Track' menu in this program.
>>Download<< || >>Official Website<< || >>Latest version: v0.97<<

I dunno if you need a modchip for that. You probably do. But you never know....

oh but yeah, as long as you dont get on live with the modchip, you'll be fine.

so if i were you:

i'd mod it (either pinheader, or preferabbly solderless - since you only need it to work once)

disconnect myself from the internet (disconnect the cable/dsl modem)

flash the chip w/ an x2 5035 or bios,  load up an EvoX disc
OR
hell if its a chip like the xenium ice or smartxx that as a builtin ftp server,

and use that link above to grab your songs.

afterwards, just keep the chip. as long as you dont play around locking/unlocking your drive, it should be fine.
just make sure you disconnect the internet at the source to be safe.

My vote is for a solderless XeniumICE or SmartXX or any chip that has a builtin OS w/ ftp server. It may be a slow server, but beats having to soldering/get a CD image, etc.

It's all located in E:\TDATA\ somewhere.  All in WMA format.  You'll find it eventually.
