Original Xbox Consoles Still Blazing 'Hot'-- Posted by HSDEMONZ on November 23 06:53 EST
Looks like those Original Xbox Consoles don't want to be left behind by this seasons current hot new models. More victims of faulty Power Supplies reported.
From theregister.co.uk:

Quote

An Anglesey woman was pulled unconscious from her house by two strangers after succumbing to smoke generated by a faulty Xbox.

Stuart Ward and Robert Johnson ran from a pub in Llanfairpwll to find the unnamed victim's house engulfed in thick, black smoke and resembling "the Black Hole in Alton Towers" as Ward later put it to the local Daily Post.
Inside were the woman and her father, who had rushed to the scene in response to a call from his daughter before she was overcome. Ward recalled: "We shouted 'Is anybody there?' The next thing the father upstairs answered 'Yes, I'm upstairs'. We shouted 'Anybody else in the house, we can't see.'
"We put some coats over our mouths and ran upstairs. Robert and I were swearing and the father was shouting 'My daughter's here!'. We were going on our hands and knees - that's how dark it was. You couldn't see your fingers if you put them in front of your eyes.
"We felt our way around the darkness. We found her and dragged and carried her down the stairs and outside. She was going in and out of consciousness."
Happily, though, the woman made a full recovery after hospital treatment.

Anglesey fire and rescue spokesman Dave Evans confirmed the fire was caused by a "fault in an Xbox game machine" left on standby. Back in February, Microsoft recalled 14.1m Xbox power cables shipped into Europe before 13 January, 2004 and in other territories before 23 October, 2003, as we previously reported. MS admitted to "30 or so reports from users suffering minor burns, singed upholstery or scorched carpets as a result of power lead malfunctions".

Kinda funny. MS can't blame the cord now! I think the ammount of smoke was exaggerated a bit though, it couldn't create that much to fill a house, unless it caught fire which it never said happened.

I was thinking the same thing ... unless I have a crazy Canadian xbox, mine doesn't have this "standby" mode ... nor does my 360

i think alot of people are gonna be pulling the xbox card everytime there is a fire,...just cause they know about the reports of faulty xbox's.....and cause they know MS has some deep pockets.....look for alot of blame to be on ms when there's a fire and and xbox in the same house......i didn't know the xbox can be put in standby mode? that must be a new mod huh...i hate waiting for my xbox to boot up it takes too damn long...

a xbox is on standbuy when its left on and you dont do anything with it. you knoe the screen fades to black etc. hd spins down and runs in a low power mode just like a pc does. you never herd of it couse thers no buttion for it its automatic. but leaving a xbox on that long like the story said was the same risk as leaving a pc on 24/7 evently something is gonna fail even thow most pcs can handel such use quite well. took a few months befor the xbox failed and there not desined for 24/7 use. its always a god idea to shut down a pc every once and a wile to to let it rest let alone a xbox.

its true i do pull my power everynight thow sence i have a 1.0 unplug the thing just in case if something was to go wrong i would be there to handel it in a fast maner. trust me if my xbox started burning it would be out of the enclosed area in a quick manaer and thrown outside or put out.
