Speedo That Does Not Use Tranny?
« on: September 17, 2004, 10:48:00 AM »

I am restoring a 1984 Hurst/Olds and the speedometer, does not work, and the only way to make it work is to get a new tranny which I don't have the money for.  Are there any speedometers that use a magnet ad the number of revolutions of the wheel or something.  Also I really don't want to mess up the whole look of the car by having a big ricey looking speedo on the dash.  thanks fo ur help.

So I take it the one you have now is the standard electical setup?  I believe you can get a mechanical gauge of some sort but I'm not really sure where to go about finding one.

i believe it already is mechanical, the speedo cable hooks up to a gear, that, hooks up to a gear in the tranny (whose mount is damaged and cannot be repaied).  I have my guy trying to fab somethign up now tho.
