1 year old m3 with like 5 - 10k miles

Or the STi, but they're the hardest to get off that list.

I've heard of issues with the New Venture trannys in the SRT-4. I'd be a bit leary. The STI is a seemingly solid car. I love the look of the EVO, but it being closely related to a dsm scares the hell out of me. You only looking for smaller engined cars? Why not something like a Camaro, Mustang, Firebird, GTO?

Just my 2 cents but a 5.7L LS1 engine gives you a lot more to work with then a 4 banger, even if it is turboed. Certainly a FWD car has serious disadvantages in almost ANY performance related driving. AWD provides a nicer launch then RWD, but the drivetrain losses are generally considerably higher and I'v often heard people refer to an AWD 13 second car versus a real one. The AWD one will ALWAYS trap considerably lower since it's real advantage comes from the launch which can wreak havic on clutches and drivetrains. (DSMs...  dry.gif  )

I certainly understand the appeal of the cars you mentioned. The EVO and STI much more then the SRT 4 though it IS cheap. But if I cared only about raw speed I'd be looking at a Camaro myself, though the GTO has a certain appeal based on looks.

There certainly are plenty of other options too. Are you looking for an particular features? AWD? 4 doors? leather? Trunk Space? Gas Mileage? Or is speed the only factor? It'd probably help a lot in the decision making process.

Of your list the WRX STI gets my vote.  Very quick/solid cars.  I agree that a Camero would probably be quicker/better on a drag strip but the thing that turns me off about American cars is that they can't handle worth a shit.  I realize that you can do things to help fix this but the bottom line is that the WRX is going to handle better than a Camero no matter what you do and the WRX can be upgraded in power if you have some time and money to invest.

I dot know if I can buy the theory that a AWD will always handle better then a RWD car "no matter what you do". And a Camaro or Stang is just as upgradable as an STI. What about the new 250hp Legacy? A Prelude is pretty quick stock, and reliable, and Honda has a plethera of aftermarket stuff. Even an S2000. A miata has wonderful handling and there are turbo kits that will get that light little thing up to 250 horses fairly easy. I'm not saying any of these are the right answer. Just other options to look at. Ill say it this way. Were it me with performance being the only real constraint I'd be looking at V8s. I know Mustangs and Camaros aren't that rare or "cool", but it's VERY hard to argue with a 13 second 1/4 stock. The displacement advantage is very hard to overcome. Maybe also think about the Nissan 350Z and Mazda RX8 if money is not a concern.

judt a side note there are no transmission issues for the 04+ srt 4. The thng has a mercadies biult tranny and if power is your big question then performance kits from mopar can give you the added kick you need to fly in low 13's.

Just as a side note buy an early repo. I would never buy a car perfectly new, because I work as a collector and a bunch of people crash their car a few months after and are out 10 grand because of depreciation from the lot to the road. So unless your big about owning a NEW car, I would wait a few months and snatch up a used 2005. Lower price, same car.

Oh yeah get the Lancer or the Subaru. Even though the Neon is fast its still a Neon and I bet it will depreciate much faster then the other two.

Bat car, Airwolf or Bluethunder.

Technically the last two arn't cars but if you managed to get hands on one of them I'll be your best mate for life!
