Weird Booting Problem
« on: November 16, 2005, 05:06:00 PM »

Just had my first problem with my xbox in the year and a half I have had it. It's modded (Alladin but not sure what version), Xecutor bios and I have a 120gig Maxtor hard drive in it. All of a sudden tonight it wouldn't boot (no display or sound). Once I eject the DVD drive though it boots up no problem (drive is empty). I'm not sure if is on its way out or not, and whether it may never boot again if I turn it off so I am frantically FTP'ing everything back to my PC just now. Has anyone heard of this? Anything I can try once my backup is done to diagnose? TIA

could be as simple as a bad connection somewhere or as complicated as a broken trace or shorting contacts. it is hard to say without opening it up. Maybe just the power button broke?  It would help if you were more descriptive with the symptions. so it takes the eject to turn on? Does it do it with a disk in the drive, or does it not matter? Your best bet is opening up or bringing it to someone else if your not comfortible doing that.

Yes, you are right. I could have been more descriptive. It powers on ok with the power button but I get no display. Once i press the eject button, Xecutor bios screen pops up and everything continues ok. It doesn't matter whether there is a disk in the drive or not.  I will try a few different situations (like booting without modchip active etc) but need to wait for FTP to finish. I was just posting in case anybody had come across anything like this before.

Ah well, I was right. It's died and doesn't want to come back. Freezing at Xecutor bios splash screen and crashing at normal bios too. Not booting any discs either. Will see about getting a repair tomorrow.
