How To Unlock A Jetta Engine
« on: July 15, 2004, 06:23:00 PM »

Does anyone know a web site where I could find a way to unlock my jetta's engine. IT's a 2001  1.8t. If someone could help me gain some hp and top speed it would be very appreciated.

Thx

Yeah, it's called buy a new engine  laugh.gif

Seriously, the market is barely big enough for big three and a handful of ricers, aftermarket "chips" are your best bet, though I doubt any are made for any VW.

ecu upgrade chips, and of course they are made for VW engines
what you seem as though you are speaking of though would be the shut off speed where if you hit a certain speed your engine shuts off, an ecu upgrade wont really fix this, and if you are hitting the shut off speed and your engine has approx. stock horse power, then you are probably hitting almost your redline while you are in your top gear, meaning you shouldn't try to go any faster anyway or you'll blow your engine

I am not really looking for the top speed of my car, actually, cause i will never drive that fast, but i think i need more acceleration.

If someone know a forum about modified car, can you plz tell me about it.

You like online forums..... Time to move on to a big one.

www.VWVORTEX.com

The biggest car forum I've been on. I'm sure you can find all sorts of info and ideas there. It's divided by cars. The Jetta and Golf had 1.8T engine options. From what I recall it's a fairly potent 4 banger and has some upgrade options.

Not the only options. I've heard issues with the VR6 having head warpage issues. Not sure if it's true. I know in some cars, like the Corrado, the VR6 is the worst choice. The 4 cylinder S/Ced G60 is much more moddable and supposedly more reliable.

the g60 supercharger had to be rebuilt like every 40,000k miles or so, so i'm doubting that it would be the best option

The G60 supercharger is used in refrigeration units. It needs to be replaced. Lysom makes a nice one I hear.

you guys are fucking retarded. the VW 1.8t (same as the audi 1.8t in the a4/ TT) is the easiest/cheapest engine to push extra horses out of

you can have the ECU chipped and EASILY push another 40horsepower and 30 ft/lbs of torque almost throughout the powerband

vwvortex is a good place to start

Before you go spouting off and calling people retarded read the posts. I think I mentioned the 1.8t already. Just because other engines were mentioned doesn't mean yours wasn't.

And I'd LOVE to see dyno profof of that engine gaining 30+ hp from a mere chip.
