Quick Question About Amp And Subs
« on: May 04, 2004, 04:40:00 PM »

ok I have two subs that are 750W RMS and dual 4 Ohm... I plan to wire them like the above diagram to produce a 1 Ohm load to the amp on one channel (please disregard the shoddy looking 1200x1 on there).  I do wish to just use a monoblock amp and was wondering if an amp is rated at say, 1500x1 RMS at 1 Ohm will it deliver 1500W to BOTH subs or will it split 750 between the two?  Thanks.

Of course it wont give 1500w to both subs.  Your amp would have to produce 3000w and that just aint happening.

I dont was to seem like an ass or anythng but if 3000w is required for 1500x2 then wouldnt logic tell you that 1500w would produce 750x2?

smile.gif  the amp has to be capable of what you're putting to it.  it's not common sense, most people don't really know that.

In theory, you could hook up 4 12's to a 1000w amp. (500wx2) and each speaker would get 250w a piece.  In fact, that's incorrect.  The speakers act as resistor's (hence the ohm load)  So the greater the resistance = the greater the power output.  And if an amp isn't designed to go above a certain wattage (be it indicated by watts or ohms) then it'll blow something hella.

So the greater the resistance = the greater the power output.

Wrong way round matey, less resistance=more current drawn!! wink.gif
