Whoa there man. Unless you are planning on getting into competitions there is no reason to be running more than 500-600 watts. While it seems cool at first to have a soundsystem that can be heard for 6 city blocks, you start realizing that you really can't use it for that on a regular basis, and while it might be cool at first to be listening to subs at thier full potential it gets old real fast. Also I don't know where you live but most cities have sound ordinances where you can earn yourself a fat fine. Anyways I would say that unless you are planning on getting into professional competitions that you would be just fine with a pair of 12" JL Audio W6s. They aren't going to handle 1000+ watts or anything but trust me when I say you don't need anywhere near that much with a good amp. A pair of 12" JL W6s will run you about $450-$500. With a nice JL Audio Amp that is matched to them the amp and subs should run you about 1K. I have 2 10" JL Audio W0 subs with 400Watts mono running to them and my car can probably be heard for about 100 feet. Not saying that it is the most impressive sound system out there, I am just trying to give you an idea of what kind of sound projection you would have (a pair of 12s would be much louder). I think that some people just go way overboard and blow 3K-4K on a stereo without really realizing what they are getting into. Fortunately, I had a bunch of buddies who went through countless setups during high school so I got a pretty clear picture of what it was that I really wanted before committing a bunch of money to a sound system.
