Depends what you are looking for.  If you just want loud bass then pretty much any brand will do.  If you want precision and accuracy (clarity) then IMHO JL Audio wins hands down.  I have listened to top of the line Rockford Fosgate, Infiniti, MTX, Pheonix Gold, Alpine, Soundstream and not a single one of them can match the clarity of my entry level JL Audio W0 subs.  I listen to alot of music that demands accuracy (ie multiple bass drum punches) and my W0s hit every single punch just as if they were coming from the actual drum while the brands listed above stumbled though them like someone falling down the stairs.  The other thing I notice is that other subs produce an annoying sort of distorted "fuzz" that can be heard even at lower volumes.  dry.gif  You really have to crank the JLs before you hear that sort of sound.  Anyways IMHO, if you just want loud bass then go for MTX, Alpine, ect.  If you want an accurate sub that isn't going to cost you $800-$1,000 then definitely go with JL.  Kicker traditionally has also been very accurate however, I have heard that in recent years that thier quality has dropped off.

Oh yeah, kickers pretty much suck now (imho). In my opinion get fosgate subs if you want to get cheap ones, and infinity kappa if you really want to spend some money.

But like stated above if you just want load bass any name brand sub will do (except sony, never buy sony when it comes to car audio).

No arguments on the last one.  I have heard lots of nasty stories about Sony Car Audio products.

infinity's offer a nice bang for the buck....they aren't the best subs, but they aren't the worst....TO ME they offer a very good price/quality ratio.

Then JL Audio are what you want.  On average they are a little more expensive per sub but do a comparison between even the W0 series (entry line JLs) and your buddies MTXs and you will see that the MTXs can't touch the JLs for clarity and accuracy.  Also the type of box you get makes a big difference I recommend getting a sealed box for the best accuracy.  Above all don't commit suicide with your soundsystem and get a bandpass enclosure.  They produce maximum thump but I have yet to hear one that acutally sounds good.  BTW a good amp is just as important.  Just because an amp has lots of power doesn't mean it is good.  You need to take a look at the Total Harmonic Distortion ratings (THD) as well as what voltage they were rated at.  Cheap companies tend to cheat and put thier specs up at 14.4 volts when we all know that a car battery isn't capable of putting out such power.

i would argee jl audio is better than mtx
i think JL audio have the world rercord 176db or some thing like that.
i have to say i like my boxes ported , there is more air move ment in the car.
i like to feel my hair move.lol

ul also need to decide on what size sub or subs u wanna get, is makes quite a big difference to the sound.12" - 15" 18"
or 10"
10" good qualitly sound ,not much sub movement

i have 2 cerwinvega 15" Hed 15" trust me not many subs come close to the sound of these!
running of my cerwinvega mono block  amp . does not have enough power 4 these bad boys.

I agree on both counts.  I personally prefer 10" subs for that reason, however if you go with 12" JLs you will still get a very accurate sub.  Yeah, JLs do have that record due to the introduction of thier W7 subs.  Keep in mind though that if you are running less than 1,000 watts to one of those subs you are under-powering the thing. blink.gif

Well, if you want sound quality (and have $1600 to WASTE) I'd reccomend a Focal 38WX...
