ok So i was playing my xbox the other day and it freezes, so I shut it off, and boot it back up and I get error 9, which I looked up and it said to try another hd. I don't have a chip in it yet, as it broke while my chip was being shipped. I need to know if there is someway for me to unlock the hd now that its pretty much dead or just anyway for me to get it running long enough to get it unlocked with ConfigMagic. I have a boot disc, but I don't think that that will work considering it won't launch games with out the hd. The xbox is a v1.6, the hd is the stock 8gb WD one, and the chip I have ready for it is an Xecuter v2.6CE.

So you are saying you haven't tried to mod it in any way yet? Check in the link below, it explains your error code. I got this once when trying to put a small hard drive to my Xbox.

If the hDD is dead and you are about to chip just fit a new HDD at the same time. You don't need anything from a stock drive to set up the new HDD

No I haven't tried to mod it yet. Chancer, would I still be able to do that even tho the HD is still locked. I thought you couldn't swap a HD if it was locked.

The hdd that you will be putting in the xbox has to be unlocked (which is how they come)...it doesn't matter if the dying hdd is locked whenever it is going into the trash.
