How To Unlock The Original Seagate Drive
« Reply #75 on: November 26, 2005, 09:44:00 AM »

The Seagate ST310014ACE is in a different family than the ST310221A, the ST310221A is in the U5 family of drives while the ST310014ACE is in the Ux family. There is a different firmware configuration. This program currently has the flash, direction and certificate for the U5 family only.

Yes there has to be the software package for this fash utility on the Ux but right now it is not accessable. You can track down firmware rips from places like shostatsky and hddguru but these formats are for hardware/software such as PC3000 and HRT.

Once again this tool (SF) will flash the drive if we had the data for it in the .CRT, .FLS and .OVL format.

Edit

Well in theory anyway, I do not have the software to test so I can not be 100% sure...

Hi Kris, you listed all drive models tha work with the seaflash tool, mine is included in your list because it's ST3120022A. However this message appears: "Model ST3120022A on generic PC1 ATA BUS 0. Not in Specified Family.
So it inmediately drives me to A:\

Kris or someone please tell me, What could I do in order to run the process for this model.

Well, I'm not Kris but let me answer.

The hdd you have (ST3120022A) is not in the U5 family which this program is designed for, it is in the Alpine family of models so the flash program will work for it if you had the Alpine firmware which this does not have.

Thanks, now I know that my ST3120022A (120gb HDD) is not in U5 family. In a last try, I put this HDD in my chipped Xbox(it was previously there) and even when the data that I found in the eeprom txt files(Disk model # & serial #) were for a 300gb HDD (currently installed there) this 120gb could be unlocked. As a recap I tell you that in my Chipped Console: 1st=Retail HDD 2nd=120gbHDD 3rd=300gb HDD. The eeprom backups were for the 300gb HDD so I am awesomed that these eeprom files worked for the 120gb even when the model and serial of the HDD are different.

In the other hand I have another console with a virtual chip. There the retail HDD was a ST310014ACE and currently it has a 200gb HDD. So I re-installed the ST310014ACE (the retail one) in order to unlock it, but it doens't load because the console gave me an error (I can't remember the number) and the eeprom files are the same for the retail and for the 200gb, so I guess that it wouln't happen in a chipped Xbox.

Reading through this posts I found that ST310014ACE belongs to UX family (neither U5 nor Alpine) and that its firmware update is under development, so I guess that I have to wait until the release to successfully use this retail HDD because I coulnd't unlocked it in my sofmoded Xbox.

Ciao to all.

Unlock Solution for ST310014ACE
---------------------------------------

This is the only working unlock solution :

First of all you have to build an Terminal

Adapter http://www.mytempdir.com/287344

I made it with the schematic AdaptorSeagate2.gif

Connect 5V to the adapter, conect the RS232 to

PC an the other cable to the serial diagnostic port

of the ST310014ACE (Its there were you plug in the

Jumper for Master / Slave etc.. ) look @ the schematice

I currently run both PC3000 and HRT, do you not still need the PCI card?

there is an emulator for for PC3000 with emulates the hardware, look in the forum link i posted

the password of the seagate is stored in the SA area.

You have to dump module u25 from the drive...

the password is there in HEX 40 characters

That is good to know, now if anyone wanted to take the time to make the adapter then they can utilize a powerful tool.  beerchug.gif

Isn't it possible now that someone can extract the unlocked firmware with the adapter hack and makes a firmware file with it... in the same way that the other drives are done ?

Ok, Simple question (I hope)

I have a non-moddex X-box that lost it's files, and is locked.  I have no key for it.

I can unlock it with this program, then throw it into my modded box and copy the files I need to it...

My question is however, can I re-lock it to work with my unmodded box?  Will it still have the same EEPROM key?

I really hope so, cuz this would make a great gift for my younger siblings.

Thanx again!

If it is a ST310211A and only the ST310211A Seagate drive then you can unlock it with this software but as far as locking it to the unmodded xbox, you will need to know what the key is for that xbox first. The easiest way would be to use a solderless chip and place the unlocked hdd in the system then lock it and remove the chip (After the hdd has be rebuilt of course).

There is really no simple way to retrieve the key from a stock xbox without some manipulation.

I was afraid you would say that.

The key MAY be stored on the HD... Will this firmware flash erase the files that are on the drive?

Nope, the only thing this does is updates the firmware and thus removes the lock, all files are intact unless they have been corrupted before (This happened to me the first time I tried and I thought it damaged the files but after a few other drives that worked perfectly I relized the data was corrupt before use).

EDIT

When you do unlock the hdd, if you backed up your EEPROM data then it iwll only be for the first xbox. If you want to place it in an xbox the hdd what never in before then you will still have to manipulate the process to access the key.
