How To Unlock The Original Seagate Drive
« Reply #60 on: November 09, 2005, 04:07:00 AM »

Yes there is (not that particular ISO though, just how to make your own one), I said how to do it on page 1 of this very thread .....

Does no one read anything other than post 1 of a thread these days I'm starting to wonder?? (sigh)

Nice one, and for those of us who don't have floppy drives anymore and want a bootable CD like me,....

Download the image in the 1st post, extract the .IMA file, fire up nero, choose bootable CD, point it to the IMA file and choose floppy emulation and then burn what appears to be an empty CD, but it will be bootable and run the seagate flash proggy straight off :D

Worked a treat on a retail locked disk, but it knew when there was an ST310014A on there and said "not specified in family" and returned to the A: prompt.

Someone must have the skills to edit the familly table and try it though, surely :)

Cheers,

For Nero, just open "Nero Burning Rom" and go the the "Recorder" tab, choose "Burn Image" and then check the "Finalize CD" box and away you go....

I'm using version 6 but any version of nero that allows bootable CDs to be made using a floppy disk as the boot image (i think that's all versions) will work I should think... Nero Express may not do it as it's a cut down version.

You did download this file and then extract the xrghdd.IMA?:

http://www.xboxrepairguide.com/XRGHDD/xrghdd.imz

Here's what nero should look like:

(IMG:http://www.meltdown.fsnet.co.uk/pics/XBOX/bootcd.jpg)

Then just burn an empty CD.

Nope...

This is a flashing program that Seagate themselves created and fortunately the 310211A was included so it allows us to reflash the firmware thus removing the lock tags. It does not work on any of the other xbox drives but it does open our eyes that it can be done through a software route.

It might be interesting to see if anything comes from this...

Yes I'm very much aware of that, it has been around for atleast a year already. I can also do it with PC3000 but that does not help the masses here  :(

Edit, I also want to let those who don't know about the site that the price of $50 is per drive trial, if you error, loose connection or change drives then it's another $50 unless you opt for the big package.

Your Hdd is an Alpine model which is covered with this software, you just have to designate the program to the Alpine model. You can change the information in the autoexec.bat file to seek your drive automatically.

CODE
SF -v -f U5339 -m Alpine

Sorry to say but the list on the first page of drives accessable is with the flash program, the firmware and certificate is only for the U5 drives, I ran a few tests just to be wishful but it was not working (Although the name indicates that id is for U5 drives I just wante4d to make sure).

So once again the flash utility will work with the selected drives but there is only the firmware for the U5 family of drives. If someone has access to other firmware indicated then please let me know, you must have the file extenstions as *.CRT. *.FLS and *.OVL for it to work properly.

Just because it wasn't labelled as that drive doesn't mean there isnt firmware for it on that site.  Looking under SEAGATE/U-series/U-series 5/  only gives firmware for ST320413A, however from the seagate website link above the v3.39 is compatible with ST340823A, ST330621A, ST320413A, ST315311A, ST310211A, ST38411A  (bold is the black seagate xbox drive being unlocked at the start of this topic).

ST320014A-3.07.rar is the closest model available on that site (same drive but 20gig) - I wouldn't be suprised if it used the exact same firmware as the ST310014ACE.

Has someone know how to run the process for ST310014ACE?

Regards...seadolph
