Nice work.

I havn't tried the boot disk yet, but it would be cool if other drives were supported as well, ie,
Press 1 for Western Digital
Press 2 for 8gig Seagate
Press 3 for 10gig Seagate
Press 5 for 20gig seagate (apparently they were around)
Press 0 to Exit

Would require more work but would be the ultimate tool. If you were selfish you could sell it for a small amount but u'd make heaps cos this would be extremely popular

Has anyone ever thought of dumping the firmware on other models of unlocked drives and then flashing over the firmware of locked drives to reset the flags? The flags are set in the firmware correct?

I don't know about patching firmware on hard drives, I've done it with alot of other hardware, but are there generic patch utils from the respective companies that would allow for this sort if thing?

I have the ST310014ACE drive and trying to unlock it. I tried the XRG Seagate Drive Unlock Bootdisk, but it says Not in specified family.

I also tried the seagate firmware boot disk at: http://www.seagate.c...flash_eula.html
After making the bootable Floppy, I try to boot up with it but it complains that it can't boot DOS, and then ask me to press any key, at which it reboots the PC after I press something.

I downloaded these firmware also: http://files.hddguru.....s/U-series xx , but I have no idea what to do with these files.

Anyone had any luck unlocking the XBOX seagate ST310014ACE?

Yikes, thats way too much trouble to go through just to unlock a 10G harddrive. This drive belonged to a friend's xbox which I modded a while ago. I have it laying around for over a year now and thought I could make use of it for an OS drive in a PC. I was hoping for a easy method to do this, but looks like its way more difficult than its worth. I'll just get my friend's xbox and put the drive back in, and unlock it that way.

sorry to bring up an old post, but this is the only one i can find pretaining to my problem. i have an xbox which bit the dust, power pack toasted, replacing it still give me a dead xbox. i had a seagate st3160021a 160 gig hard drive in it, and im trying to unlock it. did not save any of the info from the xbox. i dont need the info on the hard drive. cant find any firmware for it to replace it, and i need to unlock it for my computer. any free unlocker programs out there? i have tried the seagate site, the firmware is not listed, and the program there will not unlock the drive. the sites that could unlock it are sites that you have to pay to get it unlocked. any help would be appreciated...thanks..........

I've got a Seagate drive that has faulty firmware, it doesn't even get recognized bij the pc bios anymore. Does anyone know if I can force sf.exe to write the firmware to the IDE 1 Master?

I had a Seagate ST340014A (think it's the slim version) out of a faulty XBox and wanted to unlock it so I could use it in a PC.  Been spending weeks trying to get into that thing, without avail.  I was just about to throw the drive away, until I found this page with simple advice, and lo and behold, it worked.  In my case, the first method functioned perfectly with the first password Seagate+25 spaces.

SeagateUnlock

As I write this I'm coping Windows install files to the drive, so I wanted to share this with others who might be just as frustrated as I was.

UPDATE: I cached this message until I actually got to my fully-installed desktop.  It DOES work, and to all those countless websites where I read that a drive can't be unlocked without being installed in the original Xbox, you have no idea what your missing!

this site says that it can unlock the st310014ace, but it erases all the data, im not going to try it since i would like to keep my data (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Probably nowhere, though it seems to be much the same thing as the second method here or the first method here.

I'd try the master passcodes first, if I were you.
