last night my crystal froze with corrupt video screen. i turned it off and turned it back on. now the damn thing stutters 3 times on and off before it flashes green and red.

this crystal has never been opened and is still under the 1 year warranty. was thinking i should send it to M$, but it has been softmodded to boot XBMC, but nothing else. mainly use the crystal to watch videos and play music streamed from my PC. don't think there's any game backups on it.

should i risk sending it in to get it repaired?

They just get a new stock xbox from their pile and send it. If you have the skills, replace the MXPC.  Otherwise, grab yourself a new mobo and HDD.  I cracked open my crystal when I messed around installing the XDK, after experimenting with my own 007 saves.  Luckily all I needed was XboxHDM.  You need new parts.  Still better than losing your crystal.

well i mean it makes sense that they cant replace an LE with an LE if its limited then there are no more right... so id just fix it urself

I had my crystal Box repaired soon after I got it due to a bad fan on it and I got the same system back.

Phone them up and talk to them about it and see what they say. Voice your consern of not getting the same shell back and trust them.

Its under warnty so get them to fix it for you

that would make sense but for them its cheaper just not pay manpower and replace with a new box

does anyone else  have experience with warranty?

Just send it back they will replace the boards or whatever into your own case. they will not send you a black xbox out.
They will not know about the soft mod as they will factory restore the HDD first.
Don't open it to try anything cos if you fail to fix it you will be out of pocket and out of warranty.

Here is what you do.

Look up the Phone number for XBox customer care where you live
Speak to someone on the other side and let them know what problems your having with your XBox
Say you have a Crystal Xbox and are a little worried about getting it back
Listen to what the Customer support person has to say.

Accept the repair or not based on that conservation.

Like I said I have had my Crystal repaired and I got back the same unit I sent away
