However, I seem to remember that one of the reasons that you had to copy the original retail HDD C drive files back over is because of some matching numbers from the original motherboard and HDD combo?  Isnt this why they are usually sold as pairs?

You don't need to copy over the C drive files from the old hard drive, as they don't contain any serial numbers or EEPROM data. You could restore the C drive using a Slayer's auto-installer disc, and your Xbox would be fine.

can i format my new HDD on my motherboard with the xenium chip and then transfer it to a different motherboard with an Xecuter chip?

Yes, you could do this.

I also read that in order for the xbox to recognize the entire space on a 400gb that there is something additional that needs to be done over just making sure you have a BIOS that will have the LB4A support or however it was spelled.

Any recent BIOS, like X2 Config Live or iND BiOS, will already have LBA48 enabled. If you have a really old BIOS on your Xecuter 2.1, then it probably won't have LBA48 enabled, so you'd have to either patch it, or reflash a newer BIOS to the chip.

Also, on the 400 GB drive, make sure you don't have format only an F drive, but both an F and G drive. Formatting the drive to use 32 KB clusters, using XBpartitioner, would also be a good idea, in my opinion. This would put you at less of a risk of data corruption in the future.

do you think it is still advisable to set the clusters at 32k just to avoid any possible lockups?

I think so, because the F drive would get 137 GB, and the G drive would get about 260 GB, which is pretty big for a partition with 16 KB clusters. Although you don't have to format the drives with 32 KB clusters, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

But as lordvader129 said, you can still format just one big F drive with 32 KB clusters, and you shouldn't have a problem.

An F and G drive with 16 KB clusters (or 32 KB clusters if you prefer), or one F drive with 32 KB clusters, the choice is up to you  smile.gif

If I am going to use XBPartitioner, would I put that on the Evox boot disk as well and use XBPartitioner to format the initial partitions?

Yes. XBPartitioner can format all the partitions, just like with Evox. If I remember correctly, there is even a quick format option, so all the paritions can be built at once.

Also, make sure that you format the hard drive by what BIOS the Xbox with the Xecuter chip has. For example, if the Xbox has a BIOS that gives 137 GB to the F drive, and the rest to the G drive, format the hard drive in XBPartitioner accordingly.

gamer thanks for the reply.  does anyone know why the xenium wont format the 400 gb?  i have read about corruption on 400 giggers but that is due to the cluster size, it seems.  im wondering if the problem might be on the drive itself.  but i did read about some bugs in teh xenium os.  so any thoughts on that would be appreciated.

also, if im using xbpartitioner through the evox boot disk, obviously i will have to edit the .ini to provide a direct link to the app, but where do i list it's location at?  usually this would be in the e drive, but there are no drives to list it in.  would i just put it in the root of the boot disk maybe in an apps folder and have it look in c:/apps?
