Error 16 With Original Hd Softmodded With Aid 2.01
« on: September 15, 2005, 01:02:00 PM »

I have an xbox that was softmodded with the AID 2.01 and now I get error 16 when it starts up (retail HD).  Its not mine so there is no backup of the eeprom to unlock the hd.  I am not concerned with the data that is on the drive I just want to completely redo the xbox.  I DO have a restore cd from my old xbox (which was stolen).  Is there any chance that I can get this xbox to work again with this retail HD?  I have other HD's laying around that I can use if that will help (non xbox)?

What if I setup a 30gig hard drive with my restore cd (has original retail configuration on it, unmodded in other words) and leave it unlocked and put it back in the xbox....with it lock it automatically?

But how will i get the HD locked to the eeprom that is in this xbox.  I dont have any files with this xbox.  This xbox was given to me since it did not work any more and all it gives is an error 16.  The restore cd I have is from my old xbox (which was stolen)  How will I get it locked to that eeprom?  I dont have the eeprom file.

yes, a hotswap should also work if your getting error 16, the retail C:\ can be found in the slayers cd, they are probably on your AID disc too

I checked the hotswap tutorial and it requires a modded xbox.  Which I do not have.  I only have 1 xbox.  This xbox will not load anything at all.  How do I go about doing this.

Do I setup the 30gig with my retail files and leave it unlocked and swap the drives out once it has unlocked the retail HD?  When do i swap it out?

Coldboot your exploitable game, load the exploit, stick AID into the xbox and reinstall the m$ dash files.

Put the game in the drive, turn off your xbox.
Power on your xbox with the game in the drive... done (that's coldbooting).

I tried coldbooting...i still get error 16.

Now for hotswapping....
Leave retail hd plugged into xbox.  Plug new HD (ms files and unlocked)  into another powersource.  Power up new HD.  Power up xbox.  When the big X appears I switch the IDE cables right?  And it should work.  As long as I switch it quick and fast when it shows that BIG X.

Did you try coldbooting with an Original game (not a copy)?

That's how I get around error 16 problems.

(that or a solderless modchip).

Sure did.  I tried several times.  No go.  In the end I am gonna get a chip but I am really trying to get this working now.  This is my last day off and I go back to work tomorrow and i wont have much time to do it till next wed/thurs.  Very impatient.
